Last year I fished Toledo from January to July and fished 34 days in that time.
The year before i fished almost 50 days.

Not married, no kids.

Just bought 2 reels today, shopping for rods tomorrow. Hard to break away during work, but some things take priority (fishing)
It's an obsession. I already have at least 30 rods/reels in working order.
I fish many different fish from fresh water to saltwater, but bass is my favorite.
It's a challenge between you, the fish and 12 lb test.
What could be better?

I get less and less of august off every year. I guess I do only have to work 185 days a year

Been fishing the Bend since 69 while in high school. I will be retiring in 22 months, and will definitely be spending more time on the Bend. There is just something about that lake. Closest thing to heaven.

I fully agree. Can't get enough of it.
Usually after a week of fishing you'd think you want to get back home. I never do.

Several times we've seen Bald Eagles catch bass. A creek at Indian Mounds has a 10 foot gator. Rarely see a snake. Seen a Snapping Turtle too big to fit in the boat.
You can catch Bass, White Perch, Bream, White Bass at night and monster catfish.
Truly a paradise.

Can't imagine spending any vacation and not be on the lake. As long as work is good, I'll be on the lake. We night fish half the time.

Weather will be getting warmer shortly. Consider renting a tent space at any of the places available that provide that option where you like to fish. 2-man tent minimum, 4-man tent preferred. Of course, a real pain to pitch tent at start of "weekend" and take it down at end of "weekend".

However, it's fun. Costs are cheap. Most sites that charge for tent spaces charge very little. Some sites don't advertise that option - be sure to ask them what they would charge for the weekend. Never hurts to ask. Some sites offer free nearby electrical outlets for "whatever".

Some sites provide coves, slips, etc. that come right up to your rented tent space. That means you can pull your boat up on land (dock it) 100' or less from your tent.

Rather than having to trailer your boat and head back to the motel each day or night, you can jump into your boat any time (early morning, 10 pm at night after you just caught a few hours sleep from the day's fishing, etc.) and "head back out".

Did that for years when I was in your similar "work or fish" frame of mind. Yes, at TB. Mid lake, bridge area. I would often go fishing all night, come in maybe 6 am, get 4 hours sleep and head back out about 10 or 11 am. Car was still nearby, so if I wanted to go to nearby restaurant for breakfast before heading out that was easy to do.

Not saying you should do the "tent" routine full time. Just as a change of pace is my suggestion.

Very convenient in many ways. Naturally, somewhat inconvenient. Pluses and minuses.

Just a suggestion for your consideration. Good fishing.

I totally agree. It's a war. I have lost large fish when my line broke on several occasions.

Toledo Bend is not a "clear water" reservoir. Try 6/30 braid or equiv. (6# equiv. mono diam., 30 lb. test) instead of 12 lb. mono.

Love your posts. Sorry, just trying to help. Good fishing.

Just talked to my dad, he's fishing a club tourney today. Said he had about 19-20 pounds, every fish on a senko up at Blue Lake. Were fishing another tourney tomorrow and are going up there. He already left to go fish at Lanan cause that's where they weigh in at.

I fished braid 2 seasons and consistantly caught less fish.
I only use it now for Frogs and sometimes spinnerbaits if there's a lot of brush.

My buddy also has been catching on Senkos the las 2 weekends.
Thas right up my alley. I love fishing Senkos and have about 50 packs of different colors.
A few years ago they were tearing up Senkos, then we started throwing swimming flukes and they hit that like crazy for the next few months.
I'm going Wednesday and Thursday. I'll let you know what's up.
Text me what your dad does at Lanans.
