What needs to happen is a budget build, lowest price wins. Only caveat is it must fire 500 rnds without malfunction, a 100 rnd break in would be allowed before a malfunction would knock you out. Also must shoot at least 2" groups at 100yrds from bench rest

Excellent quality build, I have an extra minimalist stock laying around I was going to throw on my lightweight build but decided to go with the bcm gunfighter stock

Thanks. It is a slightly different color than the upper and lower. It looks much more drastic in the photo, you can't really tell in person unless you're looking for it.

I know what you mean, it does not match any other "fde" color

You should look into the gun fighter stock, it's only like an ounce or two heavier

It's actually called scorched dark earth, it's supposed to be the same as FDE. And it looks a lot closer than in the pic, kinda weird.

It says Corvette in it so that means it is full of wholesome, American, kickass goodness.

Thanks for the kind words. I am pretty happy with how it turned out. I think my favorite part is the handguard, it makes the rifle.

That was my first one putting together, I was surprised how easy it was. Granted, I beat the gas block to shite trying to get the pin in, but it was late. CivilTiger gave me a hand with the barrel and compensator. He has one of those reaction rods, those things are pretty sweet little toys.

Here is my cheap build. Not super cheap, could have built it much cheaper, but still cheap none-the less. I wanted to build it from the ground up so I didn't just buy an upper and lower and bolt them together. Total price with shipping, taxes, and optics less than $550. No Poly uppers or lowers. 223 Wylde chamber.

Build Spreadsheet

So far I've completed my upper. Pretty basic no frills. Did get a pretty good price on an ACOG Bushnell look alike for $69 shipped from PSA. Was going with flip up irons which would have saved me $40-50 but I've used the Bushnell before and thought it would be worth the extra dough at that price.

My latest build - 300 BLK. Noveske 8.5 barrel. Just got the SDN-6 this week. Not sure how I'm going to like the Troy PDW stock for this application. It's definitely not comfortable or stable, which are things I would want out of this type of rifle. I will have to try it out and see.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge on this company. HM Defense

HM DEFENSE pretty good prices on their products and look to be of good quality Billet Uppers and lowers complete starting at $1100.

Thank you for posting the Build Spreadsheet. I was going to create my own for my first build. Now I can use yours as a guide to edit for my parts. I love how you include all the links.

I also will assume from your handle you are a Biker, mountain? Road?

nice looking Pirate!
but got a question for ya on the Noveske 8.5 barrel, any issues with velocity loss or fragmentation issues on 8.5?
was looking at the same but was told no shorter than 10.3 or 10.5 at least with 5.56

Mountain, though I do own a road bike. Haven't ridden much since I graduated late 90's.

BTW, anyone looking at the Magpul MOE SL handguard be sure to read the fine print that it only fits with the A2 sight/gas block. After lots of cussing, grinding, and some creative assembly I was able to get it to fit on my upper-height gas block. Problem is the handguard hits a railed gas block so you can't push it far enough forward to clear the delta ring to get it to seat. I had to loosen my gas block, slide it forward to get the upper part of the hand guard installed. Pushed the gas block back into place with some pressure to keep it pressed against the end cap while I tightened it back down. Bottom installs just fine. Even doing that I had to file away about 0.030" to get the gas block to seat fully against the end cap.

Pin the tube in the block before mounting the block on the rifle. Signed, Learnedthehardway.
