So, I snapped my favorite spinning rod last week. (Pre stupidity on my part) the reel is my trusty PENN 1500 that I've had for years. I had a PENN brand 7' medium rod on it.
I use it for speck fishing mainly.

A) Any suggestion on a new one?

B)Ugly Stik is the only suggestion I've gotten so far. Any thing else worth looking at

just bought a 7' medium H2O express (blue rod)from academy. I like it a lot so far. I think it was in the $70-$80 range

I'd take my reel to academy and try it on all the rods in the price range.

This is what I use and love them. If you fish with friends you can always recognize yours with the power blue color.

Blair's rods are good

Saw the new Castaway rods at ICast and have been using both the spinning & casting rods since then & really like them

The Skeleton's are very light & sensitive

I have been switching everything to Shimano Teramar rods. I like them a lot.

Just put one on my old Shimano reel after the kid broke my old rod.

I use Penn spinners with Ugly Stik, all the time. Works every time.

Lew's American Hero Speed Stick
7'M F Inshore model
Lews @ Academy

A pretty good rod for the price ($70).

I bought two of the Lew's at the beginning of the summer. Two of the rods have broken and one reel broke while fishing. Would not recommend.

If you have an extra $20ish to put into it the Go2 series from Castaway is great. I've got a 7' medium, been using it a little over 2 years. Plenty of specks, mackerel, and a few reds landed on it.
