M&P 9 owners...I've convinced myself I now need the shield

Anyone else have both versions? Thought about the Glock 43, but I love my full size mp...so why change?

I bought an M&P 9mm after reading a thread here. It is easily my favorite pistol at this point. Never thought I'd like anything as much as my Colt 1911.

Fyi, some gun store in Hammond is going to have them on sale in a couple weeks

Sometimes you just need a smaller gun. I say go for it.
I can carry a G17 but the 19 just carries better without getting squirrely and carrying a mouse gun.
I had a 43 but ultimately got rid of it. I found the grip too short to draw it consistently when in an entanglement. Standing on a square range in front of a static target no big deal.......but start wrestling around and I just found it too difficult to get to as opposed to a 19.
Now the Shield I didn't have that problem. It still had enough grip to grip and rip.

go for it. great option for CC. I'd take it over the 43 all day.
Interstate in hammond is putting them at $354.99 or something crazy, so snatch one up while you can.

Get the shield. You'll love it.

I've got the compact and the shield. I carry the shield when I otherwise wouldn't have carried at all so that's how I justify it. Both great guns.

I honestly don't think I've met a single person who has been unsatisfied with a Shield. And I say this honestly without pumping S&W even though I love their products. For what it's worth, most new Glock 43 owners I've met have been relatively satisfied as well.
But I still think the Shield brings a lot more to the table for the price.
My single stack 9mm is a Kahr CM9 (great gun; super reliable) but the Shield wasn't out when I got it. If it had been, I would probably be a Shield owner.
EDIT: I suggest you go with a Shield that has no thumb safety. If you can only find a thumb safety model then it's pretty easy to ignore it. But not having it at all is a bit better.

I have the 9mm Shield for a BUG. My EDC is Glock 19, and the Shield trigger (with an Apex kit) has a trigger quite similar to that of the Glock.
The only negative I see in comparing the M&P to the Glock is that it isn't quite as simple to take down for cleaning, and there are no .22 LR conversion kits made (yet) for the Shield.
If you're getting the Shield to carry as a primary weapon, I'd recommend getting in the habit of carrying a second mag - you're dropping way down in mag capacity compared to the full sized M&P.

My m&p 9 with apex trigger is easily my favorite striker fired gun.

No doubt

Because encounters where a concealed weapon needs to be drawn often end up being shootouts.

I had a shield and traded it for a M&P 9c. I am a big guy and the little bit more width doesnt bother me. I also didnt like the fact that the shield was a right hand saftey only. The 9c i got has lever safeties. I also have a few of the fullsize 9mm mags with grip extensions which is cool to have 17 rounds if I want to. Admittedly the trigger isnt as good on the 9c as the shield but its negligible. I wouldnt hesitate to reccomend the shield either though....shot really well for what it was and the relatively low cost.

If you use the safeties, practice using it every single time you draw from the holster and reinsert into the holster. If you ever need it in a life or death scenario you won't be thinking - only reacting. Muscle memory plays a huge part so if you don't actuate that safety every time, it's better to carry one without it.

Not sure why you are taking this angle when the need to draw your weapon at all is already unlikely, especially if you are observing your surroundings. Its the same case as the pistol itself, better to have and not need rather than need and not have.

I have the full size M&P 9, and love it, however I wasn't a fan of the way the shield felt in my hand. I wish it did, it would have saved me some money, but instead I went with the XDs 9, it was much more comfortable though a bit more expensive.
Definitely the shield over the glock 43. Much more expensive, and holds less rounds than the shield.

I like the safety. Not dissimilar from a 1911 safety. Just make sure you practice flipping it off on your draw (fairly easy).
