Not dissimilar from a 1911 safety. Just make sure you practice flipping it off on your draw (fairly easy).

True. The actuation feels much more plastic though.

As long as he practices doing it every single time I doubt it would be a problem.

But for me, since my holster covers the trigger guard (as any holster should) I'm not worried about the trigger being pulled.

Shotguns and rifles have safeties because the trigger is always exposed. But in a holster a pistol trigger is protected, hence, less need for a safety.

But if you train with it, no problems. Just do it every single time.

Am likely getting a compact pistol soon, and have been looking at Ruger LC9. I don't know anything about auto pistols, and have not handled a Shield. I have however heard a lot of recommendations for them. What is your opinion on the Ruger line? (40 or 9 - no real preference). TIA

Get the LC9s Pro. It's the striker fired version (better trigger) and the "Pro" denotes that it has no magazine disconnect safety (unnecessary) or a thumb safety.

Also, get it in 9mm. The ballistic difference in 9 and 40 is negligible and you get an extra round in your magazine with 9mm.

It'll be a great concealed carry piece.

I bought the M&P9 Shield for one son. Getting an M&P9C for another son. I am very pleased with the accuracy and feel of the shield.
