Which of the (2) Native Ultimate and WS Ride 135 do you feel is the most stable for standing fishing in the marsh?

My first kayak was the Ride 135. The stability of the kayak sold me, as did its price! For what they sell for, you would be hard pressed to find a better kayak. People like to say the Cuda is better, yada yada yada. . . but they hardly ever mention the fact that the Cuda is also over $300 more expensive than the Ride. (Personally, I like the Ride over the Cuda anyway) The Ride is a little heavier, but not unmanageable- thats what kayak carts are for. Only downside I found to the Ride is that is not as fast as the Ultimate. A rudder is also a good investment for its tracking ability.

solid post.

I would say the ultimate and the Ride are on par with one another. I like the option of being able to fish when it gets sloppy especially since I like to fish tournaments. The weather doesn't always hold out and I don't want to be restricted by a non-bailing deck. We did have someone in a tournament last year get swamped in an Ultimate because of a few jackasses in a boat thought it would be fun to do so. At least if that happens when I'm in my Ride I don't have to try to empty the whole boat our.

Like SpeckledTiger stated, they are both on similar footing as far as being able to stand and fish.

The Ride is a SOT, so when you are standing, you are a few inches on top of the water. In the Ultimate, you are standing below the water level. This makes the Ultimate seem the more stable of the two. Both have pontoon style hulls though, and the secondary stability of both are rock solid. . . I never fell out of the Ride nor have I fallen out of the Ultimate.

I'm really leaning towards the Native ultimate. Just a very clean design that will hold gear and is easy to customize. Think I'll hit up Massey for a personal demo of Native and WD Ride.

On a sperate question - Just curious how far you guys who marsh fish typically paddle round trip a day?

I have a ride 135, First yak, had it for almost 2 months now. I usually fish cypremort point area. Fishing the marsh, The most I've paddled has been like 7 miles ( didn't catch anything either) but I've starting fishing the cove area ( more successful) and only have to paddle like 1-2 miles.
Love the ride 135 btw, I'm a big guy 6'4" 230 and standing is not too bad in it. Never set a hook while standing yet, hopefully it ll be soon and ill still be dry

All depends on where and when.

On a typical trip down LA 1, 3 miles roundtrip is about the norm. With so many good fishing spots close, theres really no need to travel further.
Fishing tournaments is a little different; I typically plan a route that will hopefully put me on the fish but at the same time get me away from the field. The last few tournaments fished (Paddlepalooza, Minimalist Challenge and FallnTide) I have averaged about a 7-8 mile paddle roundtrip.

Keep in mind too that its not a straight hour of paddling each way- you stop and fish spots along the way. A lot of time you will be surprised at how far you have paddled.

Are you physically worn out at the end of the day after paddling that distance? Obviously, I'm still in the buying phase and still learning things from you guys.

Not really.

There has been a few trips when the wind has been ripping that have worn me out just paddling into the wind. On those days, I tend to stick close to the launch for that reason.
