I'm think about getting into kayack'ing. Love the marsh fishing aspect and just finding rivers and streams around the LA/MS area to paddle. Where do you OT kayackers go and what is the activity you find the most enjoyable. Any features I should be looking at for a first time buy? Any good multi-day trips/camping areas recommended?

My favorite paddle is river/bayou at the Pontchatrian Yacht club Launch in Mandeville l. Launch there and go north. Always see deer and other animals (including gators) once I get north of the sailboat marinas

Also the Atchafalaya river near Simsport

Wasn't fishing. Just a long paddle in the bayou and skirting the lake.

how much you want to spend?

the ability to stand is priority #1 for a lot of people, then tracking while in the water, and weight of the kayak. If you go alone, you want to be able to handle carry the kayak by yourself.

this time of years, Massey's, Backpacker and Pack & Paddle are all having live demos where you can try before you buy. They usually offer a discount if you go to that then buy, maybe 10%, depends.

For a first time buyer stability is the key, so go wider. As you get into it, speed and tracking become more important. WS Ride 13.5, any Jackson Kayak, Native Ultimate all make good first time boats.

A nice breezy day on Toledo Bend in a kayak is heavenly. Launch out of Jolly Rogers marina and just paddle up and down the boat rows.

What about Ocean Kayaks? I looked at one of their trident angler models, going to demo it if I can find a place to keep a yak up here.

Just yesterday I was thinking about pulling the trigger on a yak then my buddy called this morning and I got in on another duck lease so the yak is back on hold.
