roof rack on my car.
Just bought a trailer though so I can haul more than one.
If you have a truck, get a Harbor Freight bed extender for less than $50 and throw it in the back.

i picked up a free pipe rack today, and my uncle has a torch cutter. We are gonna fix it up and weld it however i want. It has some rust, but i'm getting it sand blasted and painted free of charge. guess i can use it to transport 2 yaks and still have room for ice chests and gear in the bed.

Definitely legit if you have the cash. They are slow to turn from a dead stop, which doesn't make them ideal in tight spaces. And due to their hull design, they have a tendency to flip if you turn hard at speed (so don't do that )
Other than that, hands free paddling is always a plus, as is the ability to make wind a non-factor. Storage galore, and stable enough for anyone.
A less expensive option for bigger guys would be the Ride 135. Its a paddle yak vs. the PA's peddles, but it has a 600# weight limit that will hold you and your gear.
For freshwater fishing though, the PA is overkill. . . you typically don't paddle as far as you would when fishing the bays or marshes. In those types of terrain, the peddles start to make a difference.

Why don't more people get a canoe?
I'm with you. Canoes have more room for gear and are generally cheaper. Higher profile which is bad in wind. Kayaks are all the rage though. They are lower to the water, hence more stable, and if a SOT, do not ship water. Much less space though, and much harder to move around in to grab your gear or to put a fish in the bag. Space is a premium.

I went on a canoe trip. Some people got kayaks. The only one to get wet were the yakers. And we had to carry the gear for them.
Now the wind does give them hell. But I could move around all I wanted to and wasn't worried about tipping. And I had no canoeing expeiriece.

quote:No doubt. For taking a 3 day trip down the Buffalo, I'd take a canoe. But a tacklebox and small cooler is fine for a yak.
And we had to carry the gear for them.
Unless weighed down or with a partner, a canoe is still easy to tip. There's no standing in a canoe and it doesn't handle big waves well (passing barges on the river or taking a trip offshore from the beach). Much rather fight fish and handle a net in a yak.

The seat in a canoe is 12" or so off the water, making them more likely to be tippy. Kayak seat is generally at water
Level or closer. Both have their applications, but these guys are talking rivers and bayous around here. Nothing with much current or wave action.

That native ultimate looks good. Only 55 lbs. how easy is iy to stand in?
Posted on 4/19/13 at 9:07 am to ryan985
It is quite easy once you get use to it. Right now I stand in it almost all the time while fishing to sight fish on the beds.
