Be sure to check the WMA regs for atvs. They are pretty specific, including limiting tires to 25". You'd hate to buy something that you can't use

I worked in a dealership that sold about 60% yamaha and 40% Honda.
Our parts inventory for Honda was over 9k items with a total value of over 240,000. Yamaha was around half that.
Hondas break more often and yamaha are more expensive t9 repair.
The way things are these days... Idk
I love a 500 and 800 Polaris because they were durable, naturally they weren't made long.
I got a look at a new foreman earlier. If they gave it more power, I would buy it.

Always been of the opinion that Honda is the durable workhorse for most average users, can am is the top of the line and for people who really push their machines, and Polaris was for the repairman to make a living. I have an old 300 4 trax honda that cannot be killed and a rubicon 500 in my collection and haven't had to do anything other than oil and fluid changes, spark plugs, and a battery or two.

Nothing belt drive. Spent more time repairing those than riding. Honda foreman or a rancher will do perfectly fine.

What problems have you guys personally had with the electric shifts? My buddy has a Honda Rincon thats like 7 or 8 years old with ES and hes beat that bike to shite, and spent most of the time in rice fields with it and hes never had a problem. Another friend has about a ten year old Honda 350 or 400 or something, with ES. Hes never had a problem shifting, and he too, spends the majority of the time in the rice fields. Last year i bought a honda with ES and i too take it into the rice fields and i havent had a problem yet. Just curious is there is certain things to try and stay away from with the ES?

My pops bought a Foreman 500, and I really like it. I'm a good sized guy and it's more than adequate for me.

I had bad luck with my Kodiak then. Two belts in one year.

Yamaha probably has the strongest belt drive in the industry. I don't understand how people have so many issues with belt driven ATVs. I have owned a Kawasaki, Yamaha, and now a Polaris all with belt drives and have never had an issue. My Brute Force was snorkeled so the belt never got wet, but the Yamaha and Polaris belts both got wet numerous times without catastrophic issue. All you have to do is drain the water out and rev the engine until the belt dries, then youre back on the trail. Change the belt at the recommended intervals and you wont have any issues.
OP, are you buying used or new? Either way I would steer towards a Foreman 500 foot shift, Grizzly 550, or a Polaris 570. These are considered mid-sized and will have all the power you will ever need, and will be more comfortable to ride with all your gear/deer/extra person.

My bro in law just bought a side x side. He is selling 2 4 wheelers on LA Sportsman at the moment if you are in or around the Baton Rouge area.
One is a 1996 Honda Fourtrax 2x4 (best bike ever made). runs like the day it was bought. $1500.00 comes with a set of aluminum ramps.
His other one is a 2003 Honda 350 rancher ES 4x4. has 25 or 26 inch mudlites on it. Huge basket rack for deer, stands, etc. He was 3800 for it and the 5x10 trailer he pulls it on. Both bikes are in amazing shape.

Those solenoids are high as camel pussy. Get ready to drop about a grand when they go out, and they go out.
