What would cause these to go out? I dont think the fields i go in had water much deeper than the foot deck of the bike, but just curious if there are certain things i should avoid to prevent these going out.

There isn't really anything you can do. Electronic parts wear out. It's that simple.

Parts are under 275 at full retail.
