What's everyone's thoughts on their gunsmiths that are there? Would that be a place you would recommend or is there a better place in BR?

Absolutely not. Place is terrible. Been giving a buddy of mine trouble now for 3 months on a gun he brought in 8 ago.

I've got some good buddies that work there, service depends on the day and who ends up helping you.
Sometimes I love the place, sometimes I never want to go back.
Brian (manager), Rex (internet guy) and Taylor have always been nothing but awesome to me.
If you go in for service, I'd make sure to ask for one of those guys.

Brian Daniels is the only guy I trust there. If you want a good gunsmith, go see Vince at Mesa Kinetic/ Khyber Pass in Gonzales or Beau at Bowie Outfitters.

How do you guys feel about gunsmithing at Heberts?
Posted on 12/24/16 at 6:12 pm to Jambo
like jims it depends on who you get
I've had good and bad experiences at both
luck of the draw I guess
what do you need done?

The one time I brought a shotgun to be fixed there, they messed up the first time but were apologetic and fixed it for free when I brought it back. I understand people make mistakes and they corrected theirs, so I was ultimately happy with my experience.

So I bring an AR-10 in with a Nightforce that was new and sitting in my safe for the last year to get it put on and when I picked it up I put it back in my safe and haven't touched it. So I took it out of the safe to go and shoot it and the fricking scope is a scratched and fricking bent, looks just like it fell out of a gun rack and landed on the scope. Also after shooting it today the fricking scope was loose as shite and not even tightened down.

I won't buy shite there. Went looking for a 9mm several years ago. Walked up to the counter and had 2 employees walk by and wouldn't even acknowledge my presence. I tried getting there attention but they just walked on by. It only takes one experience for me at a retail place and I'm done. As far as the gunsmithing goes and my previous experience I can say I won't use them at all.

Yeah, I went in their store when Seigen Lane was still about half cow pasture, back in the mid-90's.
Couldn't get anyone to wait on me, after 15 minutes I said Adios and have never gone back.
How hard is it to ask a customer if he needs help?

They finished installing some night sights for me. Didn't have any problems.

Brian is a good guy, know him well and his dad mounts my deer.
My dad uses Hebert and I'm not real high on them. Had a Rem 700 that ha the recall issues. Was light striking bullets and then had it go off when I put it back on safety one day. Brought it to them and got it back and had the same issues. Basically had to bring the gun in and tell them what to do

Wait. So you were cruising around after a misfire with the hammer still down on the live round? That's scary.
Edit- Oops, I read this as "put it back in the safe" not put it back on safe. Still scary.

My only experience with them; I brought them an assisted-opening Benchmade knife my brother borrowed from me then took apart to clean. I asked Jim's gunsmith if he could put it back together because I had no tools to set the springs properly. He said he could no problem. I got it back with none of the screws even remotely tightened down, the locking mechanism improperly seated/not working, and the pocket clip not even attached.
I sent it back to Benchmade and they did it right.
I'd much rather he tell me he couldn't get it right after trying than giving it back poorly/incorrectly done and telling me it's "all fixed up"....like I wasn't gonna check it out before paying him. I completely understand that it was a knife and not a gun......but, really ?!?
I have a poor opinion of his abilities and workmanship. I defiantly do not trust him at his word.

I have had a shite ton of work don at Jims. i have never had a bad experience. They have had some turn over in Gunsmith dept in the last year. I have had them do small jobs and complex. Mr Pete is a pretty good pistol smith. He took a 9MM colt commander i had and bobtailed the frame for me.

Jims is absolute garbage, no doubt about it. The only positive comments will come from people that personally knows someone there.

Pretty sure Im not going back to them. I dropped off a shotgun for cycling issues on 12/17 and they still havent looked at it.
Anyone know someone that will repair & turn around quickly? Its an old shotgun of my dads and he has been asking me about it weekly. Wants it for a weekend we have planned 2/3-2/5. Worried Jims people wont have it repaired.
And no. I dont know anyone there, just walked into the gunsmith area and asked for help. Sucks.

I've used Reynerson's a couple of times, and they seem pretty good to me.
