Recently bought a house on a few acres, there is a vacant piece next to me approximately another 2 acres that I would like to try and purchase to prevent anything being built next to me. Was able to pull up the owners info from the ascension parish website, just wondering the best way to approach the current owner to see if they would be interested in selling to me? Anyone done this before? Should I just pick up the phone and ask if they want to sell?

Stalk them on facebook, find their weakness, exploit it...

Give them a call and let them know who you are and express interest in if they would be willing to sell, if they're not just let them know if they ever want to you'd be happy to buy and why.

I would write a letter so as so not catch them off guard. Gives them time to think it over instead of having to talk to a stranger about it without having given it any thought.

1. Tresspass
2. Slip and fall on that property
3. Sue for property
4. Enjoy the extra mowing.

I can tell there are two types on the board... Those that try and those that get things done...

Write them a letter, and give them some time to respond. After a while if you don't get a response call them.

Call, introduce yourself and ask if they would consider selling. If they say no, thank them for their time and ask them to keep you in mind should they change their mind. Repeat next year.

Don't call swing by their place one evening knock on the door introduce yourself tell them your plan make a reasonable offer. Exchange info to let them know you will keep an eye on it stay in touch with them. If that doesn't work

Build what looks like a set up for cooking meth take pictures send to owner.
Start dumping the hookers you murder on his property
Torch it

My dad did this years ago. Bought a place on the Jourdan River. There were 2 wooded lots next to him that were not for sale.He pulled records and found out who owned them, called them, and asked if they'd be interested in selling. Older woman owned them and wasn't selling. Eventually she changed her mind. He touched base with her periodically, and she ended up contacting him to sell. He later got ahold of a third lot next to those. All you have to do is locate the owner and ask. A no is the worst thing that can happen, but it probably buys you the courtesy of first option if they do sell. In an area where a home on two lots is rare, my dad now has a 4 lot spread on the water that is just awesome - just took a phone call.

Put a fence around it and start mowing it. Build something on it. Act like the owner. Pay the property taxes.

30 years later, it's yours!

Don't do what I did. Long story, but don't let them give you a number. You set the initial negotiating price.

Good idea, I'm gonna give them a call, they live on an adjacent piece of property so in a sense they are my neighbors so i want to introduce myself anyhow.

Maybe they want to keep the land for the same reason you want to buy it? (keep someone from building on it.)

This works perfectly.

A guy did that to me and I sold.

Easy as pie.

its possible, but I'm not planning to build on it would even put language on the deed. Only thing I would do would be clear out some of it and enlarge my pond.
