re: How do I get rid of a Yellow jacket nest in the ground?

I had some that were interfering with my mowing operation. Max was still alive back then, so I didn't want to poison the yard up. I did some research and found the primary opening. The alternate was close enough (they always have a second opening, just in case) - that I could cover both with a single, clear pyrex dish. Nothing is more satisfying than killing insect pests with the cleansing rays of the sun.

Drive a mudboat over the hole. It will tear up the ground and everything around it. When the yellow jackets emerge they will hear the deafening sound of the air cooled motor and see the torn up environment. They will leave to find a better nesting area.

Did you see them squirm? That must've been satisfying.

Well - first they're all agitated because it is hot and they can't get out - so they bounce against the glass.
Then they get all lethargic.

I have never seen a second opening for a yellow jacket nest.

Saw one in a sea wall. They occur when the build happens in a structure like that. In the ground? One hole.

My research said something different - and I confirmed it. I defer to those with more experience - this was the first ground nest I'd ever dealt with, personally.

Spray some of that expanding foam (crack fillers) into the opening
If there's a second hole, do that one too.

i think the easiest and most logical solution would be to pour molten aluminum down into the hole, let it sit for a day, then make your son dig up the hive so you can display your genocide as "art".

Just wait about an hour after dark and then pour a pint of gas down the hole. Don't try to set it on fire. Gas and gas fumes alone will kill all of them. Been doin it this way for over 50 years.

Yep. I always put it in a bottle with an opening that would fit in the hole. Stick the bottle in, walk away, come back the next day to bask in the glory of success.

Pour a gallon of household ammonia down the hole. Works like a charm

I found one in the woods just behind the house a couple weeks ago and just sprayed some hornet killer all over the hole. Killed probably 40 at the entrance but knew that was just the tip of the iceberg. Went to check the next out at night and the entire thing was dug out and all the dead yellow jackets and larvae from the best were gone. Only thing remaining were the paper honeycomb nests. Raccoon shite everywhere. I have never heard of a coon decimating a yellow jacket nest. Next time I find one I'm going to put some peanut butter or something at the entrance to the whole to attract a coon.

pack hole with Tennerite and gasoline, build a small fire behind the hole. Lay a propane tank next to the hole with the valve wide open. Shoot tank and Tannerite with AK47 while yelling WOLVERINES!!
i like your thought process, however the propane is not going to do much with the valve open like that. what you want here is a BLEVE...
upon the fire you build behind the tannerite/gasoline packed hole, place the propane bottle upright with the valve closed, with a small area of the bottle above the level of the LPG weakened with a grinder. allow the LPG to boil inside the bottle, and then shoot the weakened area of the bottle with the AK, while shouting wolverines!!
NOTE: you should plan on being at minimum 1200' away from the target prior to ignition

Any chance homeowners would cover any damage to either my house or my neighbors houses that ensued from doing this?

depends on your coverage
The well prepared homeowner should have a "yellow jacket rider" attached to his policy that covers such an event
