This thread's not going to go well for you. 
The only thing on the OB that get's more love than the 7-08 is a Tikka rifle. If you tell us the 7-08 you missed with/made a bad shot with is a Tikka, you're really gonna be in trouble. ,

My 9yo son and 7yo daughter both shot deer with 7mm08 this year. Both 100+ and both dropped where they stood.
If you lost a whitetail with a 7mm08 you need some range time.

Wow, I can not believe how badly some of y'all have missed this entire thread. The OP did not loose a deer that he shot with a 7mm 08, HE was shot with a 7mm08, one year ago today, through the neck, he was very lucky to live, he is joking about it not having any knock down power,

funny with ours 20 deer have been taken - furthest went 50 yards.. most not more than 10 feet but, then again we take well placed shots.

Calling the .280 the GOAT is a dead nut giveaway that you spend way too much time reading gun magazines.

Not a gun nut, never read magazines. I've owned and hunted with .243, .257 Roberts, .270, .280, .300 Win Mag, .300 WSM, .308, 30-30, and 7mm-08. Killed critters with all of them. Most effective long or short range, good shot placement or bad placement has been the .280. It's just a good round that produces results.
