I have a Nissan pro4x extended cab and it doesn't get very good mileage but it's slightly better than a full size and I can get in an out of tight spots a hell of a lot easier I can go down roads on my hunting lease without getting a scratch when full size truck would rip their mirrors off that's what I like about mine plus it's about 10 thousand less and easier to wash

I just went from a 2003 Silverado to a 2015 Colorado.
I like the Colorado. It gets the expected MPG, 24-26 in mixed driving and is big enough in the long bed/crew cab version. I have not towed the tractor with it yet, but on paper it tows the same as the old one. I'm pretty sure my phone and the "infotainment system" in the truck are way smarter than me. It was under $30K, but not by much.

The tacomas get basically the same mpg as a full size. Tow less, have far less room inside and bed, and costs about the same as full size. Why in the flying Frick someone would buy one I'll never know. Oh yeah and they don't ride nearly as smooth

Tacomas get quite a bit better mileage in town and will tow more than 99% of people will ever need out of a daily driver.

You could not buy a similarly equipped full size (4x4, premium sound, navigation, lockers, off road suspension, etc.) for less than 35k. Even if you could, the residual value of a Tacoma would make up for it.

A mid size is also easier to park and fits inside a standard size garage. I can also take my Tacoma on trails that would beat the shite out of a full size truck.

Kinda, I bought my son a 2008 Taco 4wd. I drive a '14 Tundra but will hop in the Taco when I want to downsize.

This is what i need.

Thinking of pulling the trigger on a tacoma 2-3 years from now. Need something that gets pretty decent gas mileage, is off road ready, can haul my boat and lumber etc (i got a custom rack built()

I just bought a Colorado but I kept my fullsize truck. I am getting over 22mpg so far. The loaded out version runs in the high 30s and you won't likely find a deal because the are selling as fast as they get them on the lot.

Tacomas are way better on off-road trails than a full sized. In general, they are just better off-road vehicles than your full sized. The main reason I bought it is that they come with a manual transmission and look cooler, and have more insulation from the heat, than a Jeep.

Then you may not want to downsize. I went from the Sierra to a Tacoma 9 years ago and my only complaint about the Tacoma is driving long distances; it's just not as comfortable as a full-size. I can tow my boat and everything else just not that comfy on long trips.

Also, with the Gen 3 Tacoma coming out next year you may want to wait at least 1 year before buying to see if there are any bugs that need working out.

I wish this was an option with the full sized trucks. The only ones you can get a manual transmission on are the single cab 6 cylinders. At least last time I checked.

The only full size you can get with a manual is a dodge with a cummins, and there aren't many out there.

It's also not all that beefy of a transmission. You get a derated engine with it. Manuals are going away in trucks.

I am needing a new truck. The 4 door Tacomas run between 31-34. I have also looked at the extended cab F150 XLT FX4s, and they run about 35. I like the Tacomas, but that F150 is gonna be hard to turn down. Also, I am not seeing the value in a used truck. Some of these people are wanting 25k for something with 75k miles on it.

Where are you seeing that for an F150 FX4? I've been looking and most full sized 4x4 are north of 40k for a crewcab.

Long Lewis Ford in Hoover. They post the price in the trucks, not the MSRP. Again, the Ford was an extended cab. I didn't look at the crews. A full size with an extended cab meets my needs, and I can save a few Gs.

ETA:

I haven't researched the way Ford's packages work. I know the FX4 is their version of the Z71, but you can get that in Lariet, XLT, etc. really effects the price. I know this has changed.

I originally wanted to get a mid sized but twins made me choose otherwise. I was always squished in the back seat of a crew cab Tacoma. It did not get much better mileage than a full size so I went full size. I can park fairly easily and I have a crew cab tundra.

I went from a 2002 tacoma 4cyl to a 2012 Tacoma v6 to a 2013 f150 5.0

taco V6 2012 4 door:
- Interior room is a joke. im 6' and it was tight but not terrible sitting in the front. Rear room is terrible. Guys i work with hated it.
- 6500 Tow Capacity - I wouldn't go over 4,000lbs with trailer brakes and beefing up the rear suspension. Towing my 20' xpress (3000lbs +/- on a heavy day)and the tacoma was squatting bad and stopping was becoming an issue. Holding 55-60mph with the boat was a struggle at times. I just wasnt comfortable.
- You max out the truck payload way before 6500lbs (just like any half ton)and you feel it quickly in a little truck. 350lbs in the bed and i was on the bump stops
- gas mileage was better in the tacoma but pulling my boat/4-wheeler, i get equal or +1 mph with my ford.
-Tacoma was paid off so knowing i will be going to a larger fiberglass boat sooner than later. i went up to full size. only paid $10k after trade in (tacoma resale value )
