But Barf, that's like saying all fly fisherman are pompous douche bags who scoff at conventional tackle

my cousin won the truck last year. he said he shat himself when the bill came in for that truck, he had to pay something like 10k in taxes and fees according to him. that 10k from sportsman would have definitely helped
I was curious about that, I knew he'd have to pay taxes but figured it wouldn't be just sales tax. Likely had some extra tax on top due to it being a prize.

CCA is an open organization that accepts many viewpoints
Maybe. Maybe not. I'm not a part of it so I'll just have to take your word for it.
My motivations for making monetary donations are different than yours. My views on public access are different, as are my views on conservation. I don't give a shite about reefs or parties. I just don't. So those selling points are lost on me.
I supported CCA and LLA when they went after bowfishing. Two organizations I think are doing more harm than good, but we had a common goal.
If CCA had any intentions at all of fighting for public access, I would pretend all the shite I disagreed with, like putting bounties on breeder mule trout, didn't exist and I would start throwing cash at the cause.
Unfortunately for me CCA is not interested in public access, nor will they ever consider entertaining opening up more public areas.
The vision I have of Louisiana having one of the single greatest national treasures in our marsh system is not inline with what CCA is trying to do. Ergo, frick them

I believe they actually polygraph all the winners of big prizes, don't quote me though. The dude who won the truck last year is an occasional OBer.
yes they do polygraph winners - or their parents if winner is a minor under 18

On the flip side, I have been tagging fish occasionally over the last year or so and finally had one recaptured. It was a pretty neat experience. It was a year apart and the fish had traveled 20 miles from where I had originally caught it.

1099 because its a prize, plus they taxed him on the "value" of the truck, so like 45,000. pretty sure when you buy one, you only pay on what you paid, so like 12k off of the sticker, where he had to pay taxes on all of it. he ended up selling his other truck to pay for the taxes

this is so misguided. Trout breed once mature (10 inch fish)

start your own organization for this.

I believe that when you receive winnings, the value of your reward is considered income and is taxed like your regular income. In this case, the truck is worth about 40k, which would fall under the 25% tax bracket, therefore it would be 10k in taxes.

Has this turned into a CCA argument?

All those Washington Fat-Cats and already RICH landowners lining their pockets with MY money. And locking me out of MY fishing holes.
They are just a branch of the Illuminati. Do you know why I can't afford to buy a boat and a camp and why I never catch fish? fricking CCA.
Take this bullshite story for example. I don't care if it's a CCA tag or not. And I sure as shite don't care if the fisherman was registered on some CCA money grab tournament. They should PAY THAT MANY HIS MONEY!
That should cover everything for a while.

Im sorry, I should have said, "Which he likely falls under the 25% tax bracket with his marginal income tax rate."
Happy?
Happy?

I was the guy who won the truck in 2015. Taxes really weren't bad- had to pay sales tax before getting the truck and then received a 1099 from CCA for the amount they paid for the truck, which was a discounted price.
That amount was taxable income, so depending on which tax bracket you're in, it could end up increasing your tax burden for the year.
All told, it cost me roughly $7500 for the truck for both income and sales tax. Not a bad deal. And that's including having missed out on a few deductions and credits this year because the 1099 pushed me up a bracket.
