I'm not sure it's a STAR tag though. What do the STAR tags look like?

pretty sure a star tag would be red, but correct me if I am wrong. A yellow tag is something anyone can do. I friend of mine has a kit and we tag the ones we release.

STAR is red, but that hasn't started yet this year. It may be an old tag or it may be one for 2016. If so put it back and don't tell anyone where at.

If its a yellow tag then it's probably a LaDWF for research. I believe if you call it in and report location and size they'll send you a shirt or hat or something.

They are red and have the year on them. It's too early. Should have released it and kept your mouth shut as tagging is going on now prior to the tournament which begins Memorial Day weekend.

Thanks guys, that's what I thought. This one is yellow. Has a phone number to call and has the words "reward" printed on it.

Can you claim the prize if you shoot a tagged red while bowfishing?

Nope

quote:

8. Fish entered into competition for prizes must have been caught and landed by the participant on conventional rod, hook and line exclusively. While trolling, drifting or still fishing, a rod secured in a rod holder may hook a fish; however, the angler who initially receives the rod from the holder must thereafter continuously fight and land the fish without assistance from any other person. Deckhand or any other angler assistance is limited solely to leadering, gaffing, netting or tail-roping the fish caught by the participating angler. Disabling or in any way subduing a fish before it is landed is prohibited.

I believe they actually polygraph all the winners of big prizes, don't quote me though. The dude who won the truck last year is an occasional OBer.

I think you're right.

I remember that thread. Super jealous. I'm thinking about bringing a rod and reel while bowfishing just in case the situation arises.

What type of prizes are we talking about. I see a truck was mentioned. What else?

I wonder if I could decline the Silverado and take the boat or a cash equivalent.

I caught one with that same tag in PAC last year. You get a reward. Choose between a towel and t-shirt,lol. I believe it was wildlife and fisheries tag reds for tracking purposes.

Oh damn, winning the bank fishing division gets you into a boat!

A couple other notable changes, LA Sportsman will give a $10,000 cash prize to the first tagged red caught if the winner has a LA Sportsman subscription. A truck + $10k would be cool.

On the kayak division the winner of each division no longer each get a Hobie Outback. Heaviest kayak trout gets you a Pro Angler, the other 3 division winners get a Hobie Quest.
