Neither have I. What we call squealers are those tree ducks in his pic above the woodies.

On a section of this planet that kills more ducks than most a wood duck is synonymous with a squealer. How that name came about I'm not sure. Maybe because their call is a squeal. But the fact of the matter is when you say squealer in reference to a duck there will be thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of people that think wood duck. These are the facts, man.

Duck blind argument. What's the difference In a squealer and a tree duck? In Sw La. we have thousands upon thousands of fulvous tree ducks migrate to the rice fields to lay and raise their young every spring. They leave in the fall and head back to Mexico. That's what we call squealers. Never heard a wood duck called that.

Same here. Mexican squealer is same down here as a treed duck.

Never heard a wood duck called a squealer either.

What we have here in SW La. that migrate here and nest in the rice fields are fulvous tree ducks. We always called them squealers or Mexican squealers. There do no land in trees over here and are not the black bellied variety some of my friends are confusing them with. BTW I love wood ducks and may call them squealers a time or 2 in the future.

There are three ducks in this conversation. First of all, squealers are wood ducks. Second, there are two other ducks some of you are calling one. Fulvous vs. Black Bellied. I've seen a million of the latter. None for sure of the former.

Do y'all get whistlers up there? If not that might explain why y'all call wood ducks squealers?

Never heard that in South Louisiana.

We have a fair amount of the Black Bellied whistlers up here. Started seeing them 8-10 years ago.

More and more by the year. Spring bayou has a lot.

Thing is, wood ducks were called squealers before the whistlers were common.

I'm certainly not doubting you guys. Just never heard it down here.

I've killed a bunch in Nicaragua. Don't know which ones they were...other than that they were dumb and slow.

I have called wood ducks squealers but don't anymore because of all the dumbass folks who think I am referring to the Mexican ducks that have moved in over the last decade.
