Good advice y'all. I'll check out residency.
I'm looking thoroughly b/c hopefully I'll have a long relationship with, so while it's just checkups now, when I'm older and stuff starts going wrong I want someone qualified.

I think one of them did residency at UT Southwestern.
I'll definitely check into their residency and board certified. It's not like I'm working hard for this info BTW, it's usually listed on the website.

We recruit GI's out of fellowship there all the time.

when I go to my primary guy the only time I see him is passing in the hallway, they usually assign a PA or NP

I keep saying this on these.

If any of you have been to the emergency room, one of my best friends is a doctor who graduated from the Caribbean.

So if you were there there is a good chance he saw you and you wouldn't even know it

I know physicians who have went there and the issue is not so much the school as it is the student. Residency is very important

There are bad apples in every bunch from every school

I wouldn't unless it was in the ER or they came highly recommended.

Who wants the guy who graduated last from med school cutting them open? Not me.

Did he get a residency in the United States? Is the word on him good? If yes and yes, I'm good.

So you want the Physician who is going to treat you most acutely to be the worst trained? Makes sense.

I would if they were board certified in their field.

I saw two a few years ago (husband and wife). They were both about 30 and I quit going after a few visits. Just didn't seem like they knew a ton and they blamed everything on viral infections without prescribing anything. I'd end up right back a week later.

They cannot practice in America unless they pass american boards so I do not see why not.

Plus, all he is doing is feeling up your arse. I know a lot of people who would do that for free if you are interested.

The only time I'd use a Caribbean schooled MD is if the alternative was a D.O.

Yes, it's all about residency training, not necessarily the med school. There are good and bad with both

My personal experience - Yes - did not know he was Caribbean educated until after the fact - ER doctor in NELA.

He was legit, well organized, detailed and articulated the situation to me and immediate family very well. For having a family member in the ER, it was about as good an experience as you could expect and that Dr. had a lot to do with it.

I would not hesitate to have him on my personal ER staff. He was white male....as brought up earlier in this thread.

One of the best doctors I know of is an osteopathic physician. They have almost the same curriculum and compete with allopathic students for the same residencies.
