I've played slot machines a few times but never hit the jackpot. I say the lack of jackpots is a malfunction and they should pay up.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.

You can insult me all you want, but when you start talking smack about Bond, you're crossing the line.

However, since you're taking an interest in my film preferences, I guess I can let it slide.

Indeed. The question is why state lawmakers provide such protection to casinos and immunize them from liability for their equipment malfunction.

The lady was probably playing a penny slot that had no progressive jackpot. It probably had a $5000 or so max win if you were max betting and she thinks she won 8 million? It isn't always so black and white. The payouts are available on the machine for anyone to look at. If she lined up at jackpot symbols she can easily see what that would win her based on her bet. It probably wasn't 8 million. This woman also most likely knows this but isn't going to admit that.

Exactly. Unless you're playing high roller slots or some huge multiple casino progressive jackpot there is no way a payout would be $8 million.

That's bullshite. I know here in AR, at least twice people have hit huge scratch off only to have state say it was a misprint. Tough shite. Get insurance motherfrickers. The casino should be shut down if they refuse to pay the frick up

I don't know gaming law, but that's some bullshite. I hope she gets the money.

Id act a fricking fool if that happened to me. I'd like to know how they prove its a malfunction rather than a legit win.

The casino probably could have made this all go away by giving her 8,000 cash.

Actually, state laws and gaming regulations prevent this. The states want maximum revenue from the casinos, and the casinos giving away money subtracts from their tax revenue.

The most common malfunction on slot machines is when the symbols line up on the display, but they do not match the results on the computer chip that records the true result of the game. The slot machine display relies on a mechanical mechanism that is inherently less precise than the digital result determined by a random number generator and precise mathematical algorithm that determines the outcome. There is always the possibility of a mismatch in results, and I would think an aggressive attorney could win a deceptive advertising lawsuit against the manufacturers and casinos since they know this possibility exists, but they exploit it for profits despite this knowledge.

Ok....Indian reservations are not sovereign nations. They are still on federal land.

Whereas they don't fall within state jurisdictions there is still legal recourse if they wrong you.

This needs to change. Their "sovereignty" exists because we allow it to exist. There should be some measure of control our government has over them.

The laws protect them, but it's still bullshite. Should be illegal, just like yelling "fire" in a crowded setting. I remember a story a while back where a guy won like a $1million scratch off. Quit his job, told boss to kiss his arse, went out and got a new truck etc...and then they decided it was an error. Granted, he was stupid for going nuts before it was confirmed, but still.

My great aunt did win like $27.5million in the Indiana state lottery. Or maybe Illinois. Unfortunately, I'm not close enough to her to know the difference, but my grandma is smiling.

I remember a case where a couple of guys figured out a flaw in a slot machine made by a particular manufacturer. They found that betting in a particular pattern would hit big. So, they visited numerous casinos across the country hitting these machines.

Eventually, they were criminally prosecuted. Their defense was that, "The object of the game is to beat the machine, and we did that." I tend to agree with them. It's not their fault the casino's machines were flawed.
