I take lovaza which helps with my tryglicerides and cholesterol. It cut the trys to about 1/3 of what they were before and substantially improved my cholesterol. It is just prescription strength fish oil. I like it better than the regular fish oil because I don't get any fish oil taste from it.

Ah, the old statin myth. If you're in reasonable health, just eat a ketogenic diet. it does just as good as pills, maybe better. Probably look at quit drinking for 6 months too, that will drop trigs like a rock. Go find a doctor that knows the current findings on cholesterol, which is hard to do. Most doctors do not know the newest research on cholesterol. As such, they just shove a Rx at you instead of coming at it from a different angle Here's the big secret, you need cholesterol, and having a good amount is healthy. Also, dietary cholesterol has no correlation to serum cholesterol. Cholesterol is like the fire truck that carry firemen in your body putting the fire (inflammation) out.

I agree with this comment. When I started eating high fat/high protein diet about 10 years ago, my cholesterol shot up to 232. My doctor wanted to put me on a statin, but I had read up on many of the cholesterol myths that exist and that are embraced by doctors leaning on "conventional wisdom." I declined the statin suggestion by my doctor. Glad I did, too, as my triglycerides and cholesterol are all back in the normal range despite me eating a very high fat/high protein diet.

I just got diagnosed as type 2 diabetic, 254 Blood gucose and 10.8 A1c, 20 units of insulin a day, HDL was A little Low,trig a little high total cho. was 163, NP, mentioned statins last week.

I'm not diabetic but our numbers are similar; I'm 55.

Doctors can't wait to prescribe statins; the kickbacks must be very good.

Lipitor 10 mg. I been on this for about 30 years. I don't remember the numbers on my last blood test but it was good. Here is a bonus for you: I had a heart valve repaired. Before doing this they ran lots of tests and a scope through my pipes. The dr, reported that my pipes are very clean. Lipitor worked/works for me.

My cholesterol is hereditary. Made plenty of changes to my diet with not much success along with being active in and out of the gym. Started Provastatin and started eating whatever I wanted and now it at normal levels. I have no side affects.

One day a week on the treadmill is not going to help you. Just saying.

That video or Dr MacDougal videos or Dr Essylstein videos?

Watch them both and you're head explodes.

Me too, diagnosed with it when I was young and in the service, best shape of my life and eating right. Same with my blood pressure. Diet and exercise can't fix everyone's health. On pills for both and both are in check now.

i convinced my cardiologist to give me some time to see what i could do. if i'm not consistently under 300 (aiming for 250) by that point, i'll get on statins. i really don't want to, though. he was cool giving me some time after i got a heart scan that showed zero blockage.

In case anyone wants to know why doctors put people on statins so much. The main reason is because evidence based medicine over decades has revealed that statin therapy is insanely efficacious for reducing the risk of cardiovascular complications. Also LDL cholesterol is bad cholesterol.

So essentially if you have diabetes, you should be on a statin. If you have higher than 190 LDL you should be on a statin. If your risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease complications over the next 10 years is higher than 7.5, you should be on a statin.

DAMN! I remember my total being 250 and the "bad" cholesterol 147 and my doctor seemed pretty worried. Wrote the scipt. and said start taking them tonight.

Dr Macdougall goes opposite though. Meat bad. Carbs good. All carbs. Potatoes, rice, beans, legumes. Says the exact same shite and has just as many studies. The head swims.
