Already left.
YEARS ago. Now in health care, which is an absolute dead end in Louisiana. I could never see myself going back.

We will be leaving here this summer. It will be hard being away from all of our family, especially having a newborn, but there's just so much more opportunity elsewhere. In my mind, staying here would put a limitation on my future. Sorry Louisiana.

In Other statestheyhave more efficient student aid. Take Missouri for instance, my son just recently had his Aplus program taken away due to lack. In effort on his part. Thisprogram pays his first two years of college, only able robe applied at a junior college tho.
I can see where his academic issues came from.

Upon leaving the military 3 years ago I applied for jobs in San Antonio and Baton Rouge. I'm happy with my job in San Antonio.

Uhhh.
Anyway, my wife and I are open to leaving, but probably won't be for another 3-5 years or so. We wouldn't live anywhere other than New Orleans, if we decided to stay.

The only thing keeping me here is we have family and friends. We have a 1.5 year old, and plan to have another baby by next year, and having grandparents close is invaluable
Move now before your kids know the difference. My wife and I had this conversation when our son was the same age. We stalled and now we greatly regret it.

What's wrong with that?
with being a liar? Idk, nothing unless you don't really like liars.
It's just talk with zero basis in reality. Even if OP was single, he wouldn't just up and move. I mean he's an adult, he's had plenty of chances to move at this point but hasn't, I"m assuming there are reasons for that. But oh, if [insert political candidate] gets elected...oh brother THAT's the FINAL STRAW!!!
Yeah, ok. If you're unhappy, gtfo and make yourself happy instead of trying to be a billy badass by talking about all the woulda couldas that you would do "if only"..
eta: I originally misread OP..i thought he was referring to leaving the country if someone was elected president. Didn't realize it was just the state and it being due to the crappy state (no pun intended) it's currently in. I suppose that's a bit different.

Warning: There are stupid people here too. There are stupid people everywhere actually, so if you are going to move at least pick a place with beautiful scenery, or low state taxes or something like that.
This is good advice. I've left a couple of times. Moved up to Wisconsin for grad school, which was great (but too cold). Came back to LA because 1) I do love it 2) I wanted to give back. I spent some time in education working for the state, but it was eventually time to move out. My career was limited. I had options, but not the options I really wanted. So Utah it was. At this point, most of my family lives in Louisiana, but my Quality of Life is just so much higher outside of the state. I certainly wouldn't say never, but I just don't see a possibility that I ever want to give up this kind of living or my career just to move back, even though family is extremely important.

I definitely don't see myself staying in LA much longer. But that has always been my plan.

I would love to leave, but unless my personal life falls apart, I am here to stay. Luckily, it will be in New Orleans.. which can't come soon enough. I really despise BR.

Left NOLA in 2001 after living in LA for 10 years. Came to south FL. Laugh at FL all you want but it's the best decision I ever made. No state income tax, great weather. I have a buddy who periodically flies crawfish in from NOLA for boils and I get to show all the hot chicks how to peel and eat them

Why all the doom and gloom? Budget crisis is the best thing that could happen, will hopefully force real change.
Not sure about the rest of the state but NOLA is popping.

Is the job market in NOLA popping?
I'm about six months away from leaving- I'm sure I'll miss the food, sports, etc but I'm ready to experience functional places.

I can see missing a lot of things but food just doesn't make sense. There's good food almost anywhere and I can cook anything "Cajun" no matter where I live
