Left after living there for 30 years.

Now in North Carolina.

Happy with decision.

Our 5 year plan is to be out of Louisiana. Not bc we hate it here but bc we want to experience life in other areas

My SO's career aspirations would require we leave. My career in IT is rather easy to land a job in other states.

I love Louisiana--well I love the bayous and swamps and coastal wetlands and New Orleans and Acadiana, and I love what Baton Rouge used to be. I lived in BR/N.O. for about the first 26 years of my life, a large % of my best friends and family are there, and I'm one small change away from being able to spend a lot more time there.

BUT, I don't regret leaving at all, and not just professionally. I think young people should take advantage of living in other beautiful, cool places and living in different cultures. And when you spend extended periods in places like CO, it makes you wonder what the frick is wrong with lots of stuff "back home"?

Doesn't mean you don't love La any less. But I think we need that outside perspective and if more people leave and come back, then maybe some of the BS will change.

Scruffy is already gone, but he hates seeing his home state go to crap.

TOPS is an issue that should've been addressed years ago. It was going to make people angry no matter when it was addressed, but it has been abused for too long.

The politicians in LA have been self-serving scum for years.

How many of you moved out of state while having a family and established careers? Seems like it would be tough. What's the process?

I don't know a single person who has left this state and regretted it. Not saying some didn't eventually return, but I think the tunnel vision that develops when you are born here and live here your whole life can be debilitating. I'd suggest getting out as soon as you can and giving different places a fair shot. You will know soon enough if La. is where you truly want to be.

I regret not taking the opportunity to move when I had the chance. Short sightedness on my part has kept me here and now I am somewhat stuck in this state. Not miserable by any means, but I regret not knowing what might have been- good or bad.

We did. The process for us was long but worth it in the end. We had always talked about living out of state. Wife got an awesome job offer and took it. We had two kids at the time.

In Other statestheyhave more efficient student aid. Take Missouri for instance, my son just recently had his Aplus program taken away due to lack. In effort on his part. Thisprogram pays his first two years of college, only able robe applied at a junior college tho.

My wife and I left LA for NC and the only thing we regret is not doing it sooner.

Schools, roads, neighborhoods, activities etc are all much better. >1hr from the beach and 3hrs from the mountains. It's pretty awesome.

The only thing LA has that we miss are LSU/Saints and the food.

We tried to move to Seattle 3 years ago, but then the wife got pregnant and my wife's best friend (who was living in Seattle) moved back to LA and that all kinda ended that thought.

I don't hate living in LA, but the only reason we are here is because of family. Having both grandparents within 2 hours is pretty invaluable right now. Once the kid(s) get older, we might consider our options again.

We left 16 years ago, and will always claim Louisiana as our home with pride. I'm proud to say our kids will have Louisiana and Montana culture. Two great places to live.

Because it's the greatest place to live in the world? That's good enough reason for me.

Im from LA and have lived out of state in the NE for the past 8 years. Both my wife and I are in a position to move back to the south and possibly Louisiana.....Until I got a notice in the mail I owe $500+ for some insurance money grab.

I took it as a sign to scratch LA off the list. We will be moving back down South, but not LA. Unless there is a job offer we can't refuse.

I graduated from LSU in 1988 which was right in the middle of an oil bust cycle. I really wanted to stay in Louisiana but, there were very few jobs out there. I ended up in Florida and have lived there ever since.

I hate that history seems to be repeating itself. It's a damned shame that your state politicians were too short sided to reform the budget and revenue system to prevent this from happening yet again.

So you're one of the countless celebrities who says "aarrggggh I'm so fed up with politicians I'm leaving the country!!!!!" oh except for that one thing holding me back, so guess I can't.

If ONLY your SO wasn't chaining you to the floor, you'd be free to fly! Durn, maybe one day guy.

eta: see my other post on the next page, needs clarification
