It's not for everyone. But it sounds like a lot of people are doing it wrong. I've done the French Quarter many times but that's not the way to enjoy Mardi Gras. Walk from party to party in the Garden District, drink, eat great food, seeing people of all types and ages dancing to great marching bands in 60/70 degree weather. You don't get this anywhere else. I look around and wonder what people in other cities are doing this weekend. Ho-hum just another Saturday and Sunday. I've lived in DC, NY and Chicago. All cool cities but there's nothing like like this.

I don't mind Mardi Gras, but I need a comfortable setting at a parade to have a nice time. Preferably a house on or near a parade route where I can retreat to, to have a good time with friends and family as opposed to strangers on the street. Think about it, if someone told you they were throwing a party for the general public where they were giving away free stuff and implicitly encouraging people to drink as much alcohol as they could, what kind of crowd would you expect it would attract?

The prosecution rests.

Good one. That's very original.

I really enjoy Mardi Gras. I like to go to different parts of the area and experience the various parades and parties, from Mamou to Mobile. This year I've done the Spanishtown Ball, hit up Muses the other night, did Lockport today, and will then do the rest of the Uptown parades tomorrow and Monday. Then rest on Tuesday. Just have to relax and go with the flow.

I'm not from here and never knew Mardi Gras was a thing outside of Bourbon Street until I moved down here. Y'all have a good thing going. A bunch of party poopers up in this thread.

I just got back from Endymion. We met family there from out of town. Left about 5 floats in because of all the trashbags around us. I don't mind taking the kid to the Mandeville parades but that's it. Never again to the south shore. Bunch of savages.

Endymion is serially overrated and nowhere near worth the hassle. Watching Tucks and Iris on st. Charles is a completely different story. No "trashy people," just friends and family having a good time

Make sure you cancel your causeway toll tag, and be sure to have your fun on that lame mass called the NS.

People go apeshit for Endymion. I don;t get it. I don't know anyone that lives near the route, so I didn't go this year. The payoff isn't worth the fight.

I've seen it 3 times in 48 years. Once at Lee Circle in college, when it went down St Charles in 2006 and once in the Dome for the Extravaganza.

I don't get it either.

I loved Mardi Gras growing up and I rode in the Krewe of Caesar for a few years back in the late 80's - early 90's. Always have had good MG experiences but I'm surprised at how little I've missed it and Jazz Fest since I moved away. These days, I try harder to make it into town for French Quarter Fest and the Metry Rd. St. Pat's parade.

Two good things. People like what they like.

Plus, the last New Orleans parade that I made it to was the Saints' SB44 victory parade. Face it, that's a tough act to follow.

No doubt. I've ridden in Momus, Toth, Proteus and Rex. I prefer being on the ground and having fun.

It's not that I hate it, I hate all the logistical shite. Loved it when I lived in NO or before having kids when it was just a matter of hanging out enjoying everything.

But I can't stand having issues as basic as bathroom and eating/drinking being hard to do.

I hate what it has become....from a heritage standpoint... I appreciate it and enjoy it. But beads and doubloons don't matter to me at all.

Do it right. Go in with other couples that have kids the same age and rent an apartment on St Charles. It is easy to do and very affordable.
