I was looking at Toyota SUV's and the salesman showed me the Land Cruiser they had in the showroom trying to shock me with the sticker price (I already knew what a Land Cruiser costs). It does have quite a few bells and whistles. I mean it's got cameras that show you all around the vehicle, which is actually a feature I wouldn't mind having. I'd just have a hard time spending that much money on a vehicle no matter how much money I have. I just don't need an 80k vehicle.

Not to mention, the price of repairs on any Land Rover vehicle dwarf Toyota.

EX-wife bought a meticulously maintained land rover (against my VOCAL opposition..we were actually going through div at the time and the judge FORCED me to allow her to buy it..said i was being controlling by not allowing it)

paid $15k (had every single maintenance done at brentwood dealer and EVERY service recall done)

put $18k in repairs into it within *ONE YEAR*

sold it as part of div settlement for $1k.

there's a vehicle you can trust!

My dad's wife has a Range Rover and its a piece of shite. Thank god its under warranty still.

my best friend bought one about 5 years ago that needed..get this..a new SHORT BLOCK.

thats code for a new engine.

the kicker is that warranty had just expired and the type of RR he owned wasn't made anymore so he could not purchase a new engine...had to get a rebuilt one.

i think that set him back a cool $7k

That's quite a big thing to put "aside" when judging the value of a vehicle

You don't buy a Rover for reliability. Buy it new and sell it before the warranty expires. They are like italian suits not Levis. For what they are, nobody can touch them. Of course thats just like my opinion.

I basically found the truck I wanted online and then showed up at the dealership for a test drive. None of the salesmen seemed to know anything about the LC other than that they hardly ever sell them.

I asked about syncing with my phone, but the salesman said he didn't think it did that (it does). Fortunately I'd done my homework and was able to figure it out and teach him how at the same time.

who the frick cares if they will constantly service that POS if it breaks down on the interstate in the middle of nowhere??

you can keep your 'italian suit'. i'll keep buying toyotas which..in 30 years of car ownership..have never once left me on the side of the road.

eta current 4runner is almost 20 years old with 311k miles for the record.

i swap the oil and every 100k miles i throw a new timing belt & water pump on.

thats about it.

That's fair, but there are awesome luxury vehicles that aren't junk like Range Rovers. Get a fricking G-Wagon or something.

Nice Italian suits are WELL made. They don't break all the time. Bad analogy.

I can't believe I'm doing it, but I'm leaving the family within the year. Buying a Subaru Outback.

Triying now to get my mom to test drive a GWagen. She likes big SUVs because of the ride height, and they're solid. Can't find another vehicle more solid than a G. It's like closing a door in a tank.

I'm not discrediting Toyotas and they are fine vehicles although didn't they all have a problem catching fire recently and have to have several million recalls? I guess you like cars that spontaneously combust? No car is immune from problems.

This is one of those vehicles that you put a wife in because she sucks at driving and you need to protect her. Who cares if she takes out others in the process. She needed to put on her makeup.

They cost 80k because they need to be expensive enough so that there are not a lot of Land Cruisers on the road to run into her. Its the cost of keeping her safe. Think of it as insurance or a trophy case.

LOL at the bolded.

They don't drive any better than Mercedes, Lexus, etc. SUV's. All better cars.

I do think they look insanely badass, but that alone isn't enough for me to buy a car.

not get the big Lexus off which this is based, IMO.

I think you have that mixed up. Land cruisers have been around since the 50s. Toyota started Lexus in 1989

You can about buy 2 RR Sports for a GWagon AMG (which you will need if you want the same performance as the RR)

Well made but require care, maintenance and are usually geared more for fit and look than durability.

Negative Ghostrider. And again, if you want similar performance from the Merc you are spending an extra 30k min.
