Tell that to the leeches that abuse the welfare system every day. I bet they didn't have to go through half the shite she did to qualify.
It's certainly easier here. And once they're on them there's little to no regulation of it. If the government would simply enforce it's guidelines regarding welfare and actually check for fraud they'd be in a whole lot better shape then they are now.
But then again it seems most of the people I've seen as of late applying for it have been "pregnant or up to six months postpartum" for about half a decade consistently.

So its her fault her husband bought and paid for an expensive car before they met?
Not at all. But she should not have been surprised at the possible consequences.

Where's her (and his) family in this?
A Cunha, my daughta.

I was on board until this quote. Sounds like a standard liberal blaming failure and success on others, but at least she consistently didn't take credit for either.

She paid 2 bucks for 3 cans of root beer? No wonder she's broke.

It’s not easy. I had to fill out at least six forms and furnish my Social Security card, birth certificate and marriage license. I sat through exams, meetings and screenings. They had a lot of questions about the house: Wasn’t it an asset? Hadn’t we just bought it? They questioned every last cent we’d ever made. Did we have stock options or pensions? Did we have savings? I had to send them my three most recent check stubs to prove I was making as little as I said I was.
I've had bowel movements more rigorous than that.

Being on unemployment fricking sucks, lucky for me I had a safety net with a place to live before I got back on my feet.

Totally agree. Most people in this country live check to check. I have no problem helping a hardworking guy out who falls on hard times. It could really happen to anybody.

The issue is that programs like food stamps are supposed to be a hand up and not a hand out but too many people don't see it that way.

Her husband was unemployed for years, which means he drew unemployment compensation for years. A classic case of the government dis-incentivizing work.

She should have sold the Mercedes and taken public transportation or at the very least sold the Honda. Two cars is an unnecessary expense for someone making $25k with two kids.

OP title is very misleading.
WIC is not foodstamps. It's a temporary voucher program for enumerated items for nutrition of a Mother and her newborns.

There really isnt any expense if the car is paid for already.

am I suppose to feel bad that she felt embarrassed and had to jump through hoops?
If i had it my way food stamp cards would be huge and it would be a totally humiliating experience to use them. It would then push people to get off as fast as possible. I see the need for a safety net to help people up when they fail but it should be a last resort and something that leads to behavior changes. IMO nothing is better for behavior changes than embarrassment.

That's some hard truth, for both sides.

I'm not sure I get the logic. If people choose to live pay check to pay check, why should the government be responsible for you when you will inevitably fall on hard times at some point?

plenty of those people that are living pay check to pay check that aren't college students are doing so because they can't manage a budget. Im sure if someone went piece by piece down what someone that lives pay check to pay check is spending could point out ways to at least save a few hundred every month. Id wager that they spend money on eating out, cigs, alcohol, gifts for birthdays and christmas, tv and internet.
