That's a great story, Cork! I'm rooting for you. It'd be great to meet you IRL. I'd like to get you to speak to some groups who could use your insight and learn from your story. Even though it was a terrible time, you can use that experience to help others.
I'm so glad that the trial resulted in a conviction.

Good for you Corky. You've pretty much have put your life on this board. I've read through all your ups and downs and ups and downs and downs and downs and usually I was thinking, "get your shite together".
Hope it only gets better in life for you.

I applaud you, Cork. A lesser person would have taken the easy way out. A man takes charge of his life. Whether it took the memory of Chad for you to come around or some other reason, you made some good and difficult choices. Do not ever let anyone judge you (or allow yourself to be defined) by or for your past. That is history. We all face ups and downs in life, just keep moving forward. You were spared that awful night for a reason. Live well and see it.

If there's a chance that my story could affect and help even one person, I'd be glad to help.
Took my email down, if you didn't catch it let me know.

Great to see a conviction

I'm just glad Gasknots fricking a-hole comment earlier got whacked straight away, I will be very surprised if he isn't banned. I doubt many people saw it, even my reply to him when all I said was "Enjoy your ban" was whacked, but I think everyone should know he is a piece of shite for saying it was the fault of you and your friends for not "vetting" your drug dealers. frick him!

In closing, Christensen made a similar shitty argument, basically blaming the surviving victims for not doing enough to stop them from coming inside. Of course, that was before his batshit crazy theory about the police committing the murder came out.
"Look at him. He doesn't look like a murderer to me" was the line of the day.

Human nature doesn't assume what you've assumed. Anyone who is from or even knows anything about New Orleans knows a "random" act of violence is just as likely as a drug deal gone bad.

Holy shite, that is about as good as Aaron Hernandezs lawyer saying there is no way he would have done it because the guy AH killed was his favorite blunt roller. WTF?

Look at the case of Merritt Landry. He had been alerted by a neighbor about a group of young teens riding around the neighborhood on bicycles, casing the area. Hey stayed up late that night, expecting something to happen, and sure enough; an armed teen showed up and tried to break in. Merritt shot him in the head and nearly killed him, when the kid got out of a coma he was arrested not long after for, you guessed it, armed robbery.
It cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars to defend himself and he served quite a bit of time in jail, all because he was protecting his home, with wife and new baby inside.
Of course the teen was "a good kid" according to his brother, who also had a mile-long rap sheet. There was no motive aside from the possibility of money.

You took a horrible situation and used it to turn your life around...that's awesome!!! Great to read that you are getting some piece of mind out of knowing these pos will be locked up for a while now.
Is there a way to find the video of "the race"...hadn't thought about it in years until I read it in the other thread.

No offense, and I may be missing something, but cork is pure luck that the gun jammed.
This is a horrendous awful story of African Americans with no morals robbing and murdering good people minding their own business.

Good point. And i want to know the story behind Corkfather nickname and the way he boldly said "i'm not opening that... door".
Did the "..." imply he said "fricking" as in any door but THAT door? What was behind that door besides his friend? Was he protecting his friend under some loyalty code? Sorry guys but if a gun is to my head, I'm opening any door in a house unless my child is behind it. And even then I wouldn't say "I'm not opening that fricking door". But I'm a pussy computer nerd. So.....
Can't help but to be curious. It seems like they weren't all that scared of, or anticipated, some kind of drama in their lives.
I've been traveling all over the country the past few months since the price of oil took a shite, but I'll answer some of these for you...
Corkfather is a cross between Corky, my nickname, and Godfather. No, I wasn't and am not a drug lord or Godfather, just a kid who likes mafia movies and does a pretty good impression of wise guys.
Yes, the "..." implies "fricking". To my knowledge, the only thing of real value behind that door was my friend. I don't know what type of friends you have, but my real friends are my brothers; you have to realize we all went through middle school, high school, and college together. I would not hesitate to give my life for one of my brothers. John 15:13 isn't just a Bible verse to me.
Was I scared? You're fricking right I was. Was I going to let fear destroy my values and emascuale me? frick no.

Cork I understand the fear I too was held at gunpoint by two thugs I just as easily been killed myself but unlike you I did not have to deal with death the way you have. Throw in all the court and testimony you have done. I put everything to rest after it happened to me and moved on with my life. Hopefully when this is all over you can move on also. Stay strong and thanks for the updates

Well, way to be on top of shite Capt. Obvious. I'm sure Cork never thought of that before.

Lee's attorney Kevin Christensen challenged the identifications, highlighting the point that the four victims had smoked marijuana earlier on the evening. Patin stuck by his identification. "I think I can identify someone trying to come into my house whether I smoke one joint or 10 of them," Patin said under cross-examination.
