re: Two state employed professions that dont make what they deserve

My wife is a teacher also. There's no use in defending your point of view. Until these dumb mofos see first hand what teachers do and are subjected to, they won't understand. No teacher I know ever, EVER complains about the pay. It's the bull shite regulations and red tape the state forces on them that makes the profession a pain in the ass. No real teacher will ever complain about the pay or the work if they are truly in it for the right reason.

The real reason our state sucks in education is because of bad parenting. FACT.

When I taught we were usually at school at 7:30, taught 5 hours (had one period off) and school was out at 2:30. Usually spent an hour to an hour and a half afterwards doing papers, etc. Sometimes more, but not often

It's more difficult than a lot of work, not as hard as others. For the national average pay, it's probably about what it should be.

Why don't you ask them how much of that time they're getting stuff ready for finals coming up in a few weeks. I know my mom will be.

I don't have to ask, they volunteer how hard their jobs are.

How can you talk on a subject if you know zero teachers?

Virtually nothing taught in HS changes year to year. The lesson plans they use pretty much transfer. Yeah they tweak it, I get that.

Actually a lot does. The state curriculum makes changes based on statewide test scores and areas of emphasis. Individual schools change their requirements in order to improve areas they are lacking. God help you if you are switching up textbooks. And I said one hour MINIMUM. Multiple subjects taught equals WAAAAAAAAAAY more work. God help you if you are dedicated enough to help sponsor a service organization/club. You think they get extra money for that?

I left because of the administration, not the kids. So much bull shite.

Depends on what it is (and how many), but yes they do get extra money. Usually not worth the time anyway.

Looks like you could use an English teacher right about now.

I had a friend that graduated from Millsaps and she and 3 friends went to Alaska to teach for 4 years. They all rented a house together and came back with an arse TON of money. There are parts of this country where teachers get paid WAAAAAAAAAAAY more than others.

Coaches - sure. Yearbook, Service Organizations, Drama, Theater, etc... No. No extra money.

Teachers and most law enforcement aren't state employees.

Yeah, speaking to the point that teachers bitching about pay is like the rant bitching about Miles. The two are inseparable.

You saying you don't know any teachers that complain about pay, while being married to one, is laughable.

Public school teachers are state employees. Wow, there's a whole lot of fail going on in this thread.

Just because your teacher friends talk about teacher stuff when you'd rather be talking about something else doesn't make them wrong.

If you know a teacher who bitches about the pay, you know a bad teacher. My wife is a teacher and we both fully believe the pay is very adequate.
Good teachers don't complain about the pay. Good teachers stay after school for three hours a day making lesson plans (which, by the way, must be completely changed every single year because they have to gear them specifically for every single student. It's very possible that a teacher must create 10-15 different lesson plans for every single lesson for every single subject). Good teachers tutor for little to nothing on the weekends and at night during the week. Good teachers come home crying every night because little Tyrone from class was beat again last night over eating the last piece of food and tries to convince their husbands to actually adopt the kid so they can be in a loving home and have a chance.

You're correct, just saying that they don't need encouragement to complain about the profession they love.
