I always thought that people used the blinking emergency lights when it is raining so hard that the normal running lights are no longer visible, which happens often in my experience. I've never done this before--but if this is the reason why, then I definitely understand people who do.

It might not be illegal buts its aggravating as shite. frick him.

Because some cars don't have separate blinkers and brake bulbs in the tail lights. Putting your flashers on leaves only your small third light for warning the car behind you that you're stopping. And if it's raining that hard, you think the person behind you will see it?

Meh. I can see flashers better in the heavy rain. I don't mind when others do it

Again, I drive the interstate a lot. Just last weekend I was in storms like this no less than 7 times on the interstate. 70 and 75 mph interstate down to 30 mph because it rained so hard. I was behind several people with blinkers on. It never once caused an issue. I had a 3 year old in the car. I freak out at every stupid decision other drivers make when he's in there with me. The blinkers did not phase me once.

Not sure hwat started the idea of flashers in the rain lately. Seems like the past two years have gotten pretty bad. Most I have past doing so were soccer moms.

This guy gets it.

You left out the most important thing he said "it's the law to turn on your lights in the rain." Daytime running lights don't turn the tail lights on so you need to put on your lights. The lights help others see you and help reduce accidents.

at the I drive the interstate a lot. OH REALLY?
Second of all, how would you even know if it caused issues? They were behind you.

Also, if you have to use your virtue signal, find a safe space to pull over.

Because if I see flashers on the interstate while driving in front of me, I will start to take evasive maneuvers.
But why?
You know that 99% of flasher use in the roadway while it's pouring just signifies someone is driving slow. I have no clue why people care so much about this.
Things unique to this board -
1) Flashers on while driving is a national crisis
2) It's totally cool to leave your pistol in the truck all the time

I encounter more people that don't have their lights on in heavy day rain than I do flashers.
They are the more dangerous cars out there.

I drive ~70 miles a day on the interstate not including the multiple trips per month I make from TX to LA. I'd say that's more than most. Therefore, I've been in those monsoons quite a bit. And never once has someone else having their blinkers on been an issue. I admit to getting my fits of road rage at all the stupid crap people do. If it affects me in the least, I get pissy about it. Blinkers just don't even register on the dial.
As far as them being behind me, WTF are you talking about? I am saying that I'm behind the person with the blinkers. I said in an earlier post I've never done it myself, but that I don't see what the fuss is about. It's just something else to get your panties in a wad about. Other people doing it has never once caused me issues.

I'm gonna wait for the spinoff thread before answering:
"Do only weak men tell their wife/gf to turn on the flashers while driving in the rain?"

I honestly have never turned my flashers in the rain, but at the same time I have no idea why it bothers anyone.
I agree. It's one of those things this board is crazy about and I have no idea why

Why does this make people so upset? They are basically holding up a sign saying "I'm driving slow, please pass me." If they aren't comfortable driving normal speed in a heavy rain then just pass them and get away from them ASAP.
It's no different than an elderly person driving 20 MPH on a surface street, you can get mad or just accept that if they drove normally they might be the accident that makes you late instead of some obstacle you passed with no trouble.

Turning hazard lights on during the rain when it's relatively dark outside is bad for the eyes of the driver behind you. Bright lights flashed at you isn't helpful. Plus on some cars it makes it less noticeable when they are actually braking.

It's not you (or me) that Im worried about, it's the other hundred assholes who won't look for tha brake light and cause an accident ahead of me.
Posted on 7/17/17 at 8:47 am to Crawdaddy
I drive in the right lane with my left blinker on and pump my brakes constantly for maximum visibility as a courtesy to the drivers behind me.
