In a torrential downpour on the interstate it is mich easier to see the flashers. On surface streets it might bug me. On the interstate not one bit

It is a problem for other drivers. If you don't feel confident in your ability to drive in bad weather, then dont. Pull over don't disrupt the flow of traffic. Going extremely slow and an adding another distraction ( flashing bright lights) to other drivers in the poor viability. It's selfish.

I put my flashers on so other idiots don't hit me not cause I'm scared.

Because if I see flashers on the interstate while driving in front of me, I will start to take evasive maneuvers.
Then the flashers did their job
If I'm driving on the interstate and I can't see 100 feet in front of me, I'm turning on my flashers just for safety. What's the difference between putting on your flashers in a less than ideal situation and driving with headlights on during the day?
I'm turning my flashers on for dicks that want to drive like an a-hole in a monsoon. I'm just making sure you see me going slower on the interstate. It's for my safety and for any big trucks that may not see me moving slower than normal.

Louisiana state trooper Brian Lee on wwl just said it is not illegal to have them on in heavy rain while driving. He also said if you feel the need to have them on, do so, but find a safe place to pull over.
Trooper should have said to pull over and then turn your flashers on.

Really don't understand why it bothers people when the flashers are on. How does it effect your driving? I much rather the flashers on than the idiots who don't have their headlights on

The only time I ever put hazard flashers on in the rain, it was coming down so hard I couldn't even see the shoulder. Or the hood of my own car for that matter. I had to stop where I was.
If it was raining so hard that you couldn't see the shoulder or the hood of your own car, what good were your flashers then?

Just came to say that if its raining pretty hard, but still bright outside, silver and white cars can be hard to see. I prefer for those people to use their flashers, but then again, I'm not a dipshit who can't tell the difference between flashers, blinkers and brakelights.

Flashers on in travel lane does not mean others will see you.
Need to pull over or off the highway.

It really does help during heavy rain. Try driving in Houston or Atlanta during a downpour, you'll notice many cars have flashers.

I wish he wouldn't have said that. It's raining...if it was truly an emergency you would have pulled over.

During a recent safety meeting at work one idiot suggested to everyone to drive with flashers on when it's raining so other cars can see you. I told him it was a hazard to do so and illegal to ever drive with flashers on. The entire room looked like I just shook their baby. People are stupid.

Or maybe it's not a big deal and this echo chamber has you falsely inflating how "right" your opinion is......

Or maybe I'm right for a reason and people in general are stupid.

Most cars nowadays have lights that go on automatically when the conditions are less than ideal
But yeah the red tail lights should be enough. Not sure of the need for flashers. If other drivers can't see, its their problem, not mine

Well, until they rear end you in the rain and you skid across the median and find out what a head-on collision with 80,000 pounds of truck and cargo is like.

Again, his lights would be on. No one is arguing against the efficacy of lights being on while it is raining (or anytime really). It's whether or not you should be driving with the blinking hazard lights.

He literally said he doesn't care if people see him.....

There is no doubt that blinking lights will get more attention. I'm just failing to see any major safety drawback. You guys have said it blinds you more or it confuses you with brake lights. I've not had either issue before driving behind others with their blinkers, so I'm just not sold that there are really any issues. Again, this is coming from someone who doesn't feel like it's necessary (nor does it himself), but doesn't see a problem.
