Louisiana state trooper Brian Lee on wwl just said it is not illegal to have them on in heavy rain while driving. He also said if you feel the need to have them on, do so, but find a safe place to pull over.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

If you're pulled over on the side of the highway....rain or shine....you should have your flashers on. So you're not actually stirring the pot. The state trooper gave good advice.

We don't hate flashers. We hate flashers while driving.

Wish they would use those roadside info signs to tell drivers to not drive with flashers.

Yea the key is you have to pull over. You don't just keep driving with your flashers on. If it's an emergency and you can't see then get off the freakin road.

Got to pull over though. frick people who ride with their flashers on in the rain just because their pussy hurts.

Yeah, if you need them on, then find a place to pull over

The only time I ever put hazard flashers on in the rain, it was coming down so hard I couldn't even see the shoulder. Or the hood of my own car for that matter. I had to stop where I was.
It's unnecessary in every other instance.

PSA:
TURNING - in this case ONE light will blink indicating the direction the driver intends to turn. Since it is impossible for the car to split in half and turn both right and left at the same time please do not confuse hazard signals with simultaneous turning. which again is impossible.
BRAKING - in this case both light will be on, however they won't blink. they will be on for an extended period of time encompassing several seconds. It is possible though extremely unlikely that the driver in front of you will be engaging his brake pedal in a rhythmic fashion to exactly mimic the appearance of hazard lights.
BRIGHTNESS OF HAZARD LIGHTS - much like brake lights and turn signals (see description of these items above and how they are separate and apart from hazard lights - THESE ARE VERY DIFFERENT THINGS PEOPLE!) hazard lights will give of a certain amount of illumination. They are after all "lights". However they do not give off enough illumination to really assist in your ability to see the road. That is not why they are engaged. Do not be confused by this. Visibility on the road is vital as in I need to see you and you need to see me, it is a "two way street" in other words. Being able to see things is an important aspect of avoiding running into them. Therefore during a low visibility setting some low level illumination can be engaged to help others see you.
FLASHING AND/OR BLINKING LIGHTS (Generally speaking) - Also try not to be so distracted by flashing and/or blinking lights. if you do happen to encounter brake lights, turn signals or hazard lights while driving please do not become so enthralled by them that you lose focus of the road. this is not las vegas and the lights are meant to be informative, not decorative. Take note of them, process their meaning as explained above (QUICKLY!) and return your attention to the road. In the case of blinking lights please do not continue to take note of every blink, simply note that they are blinking and trust they will continue blinking until the driver disengages the hazard or turn signal.
IT'S LEGAL!! - "La RS 32:327 C. Flashing lights are prohibited except on authorized emergency vehicles, school buses, or on any vehicle as a means of indicating a right or left turn, or the presence of a vehicular traffic hazard requiring unusual care in approaching, overtaking or passing.
" Therefore if you are operating a vehicle in a low visibility setting (i.e. hazardous) then you are allowed under the law to turn on your hazards so other drivers know to exercise unusual care in approaching, overtaking or passing.

A flasher turned on in the rain:

I honestly have never turned my flashers in the rain, but at the same time I have no idea why it bothers anyone. I drive on the interstate more than most. I've never been in a situation where them having the emergency blinkers on affected me. I much rather a person with their blinkers on compared to the person too stupid to turn their lights on at all.

Because if I see flashers on the interstate while driving in front of me, I will start to take evasive maneuvers.

If large numbers of people started doing it the road would be a chaotic mess.

That's completely understandable. Living in LA. we've all been xperienced sudden heavy rain that blocks vision but it only lasts a short time. It's the people who put hazards on in regular rain and drive 20mph below speed limit

That's kind of the point. Stopping or slowing would be an evasive maneuver. You see their lights, you are maybe driving faster than them, you start a maneuver to not run into them. Sounds like a decent plan. Again, I don't see where this causes an issue for anyone.
