Maybe that made her a bigger target? More bang for their buck if they let her go over someone that had less promotions/pay increases.

Too early. Can we please get through Thanksgiving before Christmas gets shoved in our faces?

That's why you see so many shitty employees in the federal jobs, once you become tenured its next to impossible to get fired.

No loyalty among employees either.

Increasingly employees think the employer should take care of them.

Start your own business and work for yourself---risky as it sounds it is better than being at the whim of the "man".

(Oh--avoid debt too so such decisions are not as painful.)

So loyal they gave her a shot to start looking for a new position while she's still employed.

if its a corporate conglomerate, then no, they don't...its all about $$

if its a med to small business sometimes they have to just to stay afloat...that's just life

I got laid off one time about 20 yrs ago, promised myself I would never let anyone or any entity decide my destiny ever again...went to work for myself and never looked back

I mean it sucks, but at least they are giving her a heads up so she can look for another job? I’m guessing they started reviewing their numbers and saw a change needed to be made. They could have just waited until mid December and cut her loose with no warning

You never know what a company might have to do to keep the doors open. It happens, it sucks but it is life.

If this person is a good employee as the OP suggests, she shouldn’t have much trouble finding a new job.

Unfortunately, it seems the writing was on the wall. If you see other employees (especially "a lot") being let go, then you damn well better be shopping for a another job.

They did her a favor. She will now be motivated to get off her arse and become the holiest of holy....a small business entrepreneur.

Well known fact on the OT that Jesus isnt coming back until everyone in America is self employed.

It's a numbers game and it's unfortunate, but it's also a necessary evil.

Side question - was she overpaid for her work? Usually those are the first ones to get cut loose.

With the job market being stable, she'll probably be able to find something with the quickness. Good luck to your friends.
