You know, you don't always have to party like Pitbull every time you visit Las Vegas.
They have some world class spas to relax and unwind at. Red Rock Canyon is about 25 minutes outside of Vegas.

All of the Vegas hate in this thread must come from poors and/or baptists.

I expected Memphis to be great. It wasn't.

Basically a giant Texarkana with more bums.

Memphis is a shithole, but everyone already knows that.

If we're talking about the average American, I think Orlando is exceptionally overrated. Most people I know IRL already thing Orlando sucks, but I'm guessing most people who haven't been assume it's nice.

Memphis can be pretty awful. That would have been my answer but no one actually considers it highly rated except the people from Memphis who have never left.

I think it's funny you hear all these classic rock songs name dropping Memphis like it's some musical mecca. The scene there is absolute shite.

Austin tx.

Vegas and NYC are both awesome.

London was just too expensive. For the history aspect it's pretty cool but I probably won't go back again.

I will definitely return to Paris.

My vote --> Chicago.

I like it a lot here, but the 5 or 6 months of horrendous weather really takes it down. It's a great town, but it is truly second to the likes of NYC, San Francisco, LA, Seattle, London, Paris, etc.

I think people from our area don't quite get as hyped about Vegas, because the drinking and gambling are allowed in Louisiana more than other places. Yes, it's not to the same level of extravagance that exists in Las Vegas, but when you're used to being able to get hammered and play black jack, it's not as exciting as it is for everyone else.

I liked Vegas (didn't love it), but went as a poor college student. If/when I go back, I will have about 10k that I'm willing to blow. I really enjoy some black jack and I'm going to do it right if I go all the way to Vegas to do it.

For me, Vegas is an adult Disneyland. Awesome bars and mega clubs, 3 star Michelin restaurants, pool parties, gambling, and beautiful people.

You can do all those things in Nola minus awesome pool parties, mega clubs, and beautiful people. There are many beautiful people in Nola but in Vegas, the people watching is insane. Plus everyone let's loose in Vegas, it's sin city.

It's also very expensive so I go to Nola more often.

I'm surprised you expected so much of it.

To me, Memphis is exactly what it appears to be and the locals know it. I can say a lot of bad things about the city, but the non-thug people I know from Memphis are generally friendly and pretty well grounded to the reality of its problems.

Amsterdam is incredible, one of the few cities I have been to that completely exceeded my expectations. It is so much more than the red light district and weed.

Miami is a good one tho, I have spent considerable time there and just don't get the appeal.

Your results will vary....but New Orleans would get my vote as well for being overrated. I want a lot for the city but it underwhelms me and flat out disappoints me in so many ways.

I have not visited Vegas before though. Some of you talk about it like it's pretty awful.

I think most people realize that Chicago is a tier below NYC, Paris, London, etc.

It's still a cool place though.

the list is via yahoo travel, so it is from the perspective of a tourist, and not a resident. i agree that i wouldn't want to live in New Orleans, but from a tourists perspective it is a great city and definitely not overrated.
