Depends.

On a high-dollar car, dealers don't want to pay 2% to CC processing company.

for a car purchase a check = cash. They will call the bank and verify funds. It's easier than cash.

Or you could go there with bank roll stacks of $10,000 you may draw some suspension, but it does happen

I've paid with a check no problem. They ran a credit check. Kept title until check clears.

You don't get the title when you buy the car.
They check your check, anyway.

In a person to person transaction though he is right. You can only use cash. I wouldn't even take a Cashier's check. I could use my card reader but that's 2.75%. I would take a check if we were at the buyers bank, and I was able to verify funds then and there.

Just don't get pulled over on the way to the dealership or get ready for a year long fight to try to get your cash back from the police.

I'd love to find all these dealerships that will let you run a card for a 50k vehicle.

I've paid a downpayment on two different occasions with my debit card.

I walked into a Harley dealership with stacks on stacks of hundreds and slapped that down for the purchase. Funny, though Imactually had a paper sack of cash. Haha but true.

A buddy of mine managed a Ford Dealership owned by his father in Oklahoma. I was in town for business and went by to take him to lunch. He told me it was going to "be a few minutes" and I sat and watched him and his finance guy count up just over $30k in cash that a guy in coveralls brought to the dealership in a paper bag. Dirty old guy was a rancher and needed a new farm truck. Funny part was that none of the sales guys paid him any attention due to his appearance until he showed what he had in the bag to the receptionist. Apparently he sold cattle, crops, etc and got paid in cash.

Baw,

They are car salesmen. They don't give a shite if you walk in with $100K cash with white poweder on it and you are the biggest coke dealer in town. You can drive off with two $50K cars and they won't bat an eye or give a frick.
