Obviously you can't bring a stack of 100 dollar bills in

You won't be able to write a personel check

Can't pay with a debit or credit card

So what do you do exactly?

This is the dumbest question I've ever seen on here and that's saying something.

And why not? Cash is legal tender. You can buy anything you want with the green paper. Granted, in our new world, the dealership has to do a FTR (Financial Transaction Report?) on anything over $10k. But that doesn't preclude you from buying the car.

Would I have to go to a bank to do this or could I do it at the dealer?

I brought $12000 in cash for a truck, not a big deal. Otherwise you can get a cashiers check.

Yes you can, you don't get the title until the check clears.

OT baw, I've dropped a check and drove off in a new car many times.

They check your check, anyway.

I bought a car with cash last week and used a personal check. Just had to run a credit report on me beforehand and have another contact number.

I've had someone give me $9k in 20s for a truck on Craigslist. I was nervous as hell it was counterfeit/stolen/illegitimate.

But cashiers check is the correct answer if you're uncomfortable with cash. Most places won't accept a personal check over 1 or 2k. I've had to do this for large down payments, mortgage, etc.
