I wrote a check for my last vehicle. No credit check or anything. He knew I was good for it and I walked out with the title.

I've paid for my last 3 cars with a personal check

Can't pay with a debit or credit card

I also had to make a payment with a CC as "down payment" of sorts in case the check didn't clear

Most dealerships won't let you pay with a credit card. They don't want to get hit with the fee. They'll let you do a deposit but the amount is generally limited.

I've done this. Of course the dealership had to verify the funds would clear, but they did this for me.

Had some Middle Eastern dude came in a bought a brand new Lexus GS400 from us and and used his American Express card to pay for it. Which is kind of ironic come to think of it.

Just don't get pulled over on the way to the dealership or get ready for a year long fight to try to get your cash back from the police.

I'm not the cash carrying type, but that is very scary. I'm still trusting of banks. Though lately I have been hearing more and more stories about business having assets seized and then having to fight to get them returned, so I can see why many SBO's like dealing in cash.
That civil forfeiture BS is unconstitutional. An American should never have to prove innocence before a charge is made, the state has to prove guilt.

Wasn't a problem for me. Got the title once the check cleared.

Most will let you run a card as long as you pay the transaction fees.

I'd love to find all these dealerships that will let you run a card for a 50k vehicle.

I think most are talking about a down payment. They most definitely let you do that. I am very certain that they make at least part of the processing fee back up. I'm sure some even have a blatant CCP fee.

Oh and a coworker rode back to Houston from louisiana with me after the holidays so he could purchase a car here

He made damn sure to lock the doors every time we got out because he had a suitcase full of cash with him
