if true then good for her. However, that's a huge house for her and the kids to build.

Looks like the design videos she watched were from 1984

I have no doubt that she did most of the design work as that's one of the ugliest homes I've ever seen.
the porch being offset on that style really annoys me

no way she "built it"
maybe she acted as a general contractor and had everything subbed out

No way. that stuff might be easy to learn but still takes some practice to get good at.
I bet this is exaggerated and she paid sub contractors to do a lot of it.

I'm sure someone else poured footers, masonry, roof, and other difficult/dangerous work. If that lady had a teenager doing roof work she's a bad mom.
As for other stuff, most framers sneak into country on Monday and start framing on Tuesday.

Lifetime is about to turn this into a movie with the quickness

No way; especially not in 9 months.

Sorry. Just replaced solenoids on my gas dryer on Monday. Thanks YouTube.

one thing I got from the story, is that her third-ex husband choked her out..... I'm quite sure that she was able to "trade" for some help from local contractors.
And totally agree with previous posters, if they were so broke, how could they afford all the materials, tools, etc. to build a house like that? Total publicity stunt.

Yep. If money was the main issue, why would you need to build a house that big?

Well crap... I built my own house but didn't think about writing a book. Of course it would have been much more like an outline...
-Bought property
-Acquired permit
-Bought building material and fixtures
-Hired contractors
-Paid someone a negotiated amount(7k In 1993) to coordinate the contractors
-Moved into 2.5k square foot home 4 months later

Whoa, whoa, whoa, this woman is going to be a feminist hero and sell books because she sucks at picking a decent person to marry. Seems all her troubles were self induced. All her problems stemmed from her own poor decisions... But let's be sure to congratulate her and make her a hero. What kinda people would hire someone who has shown such a lack sound decision making to be a motivational speaker.
Don't get me wrong nobody should be choked out, but that dude didnt just become a abusive dickhead over night. She knew who she was marrying.

A) She didn't build that house. I am sure she did some stuff, laying tile or what-not but no way did she do it all herself with her son.
B) She wasn't broke. Doing it yourself or not, that house wasn't cheap and a "broke" person can't afford rent, let alone the cost of buying land and building a house. That is really the most outlandish part of this whole story.

No way did they build that house with no experience. The cute photo ops tell all. Nobody building a structure is that clean while they are working. Should be covered in sawdust, dirt, concrete, mortar etc.
Posted on 1/13/17 at 9:50 am to GetCocky11
Sure she built it. If by "built it" you mean give unlimited blowjobs to the trades that actually did the work.
I smiled when I saw the pic of the house.
I laughed when I read 9 months.

Bravo will give them a reality show.

Would've been more believable if it wasn't a giant brick house. No chance they laid those bricks themselves
Also no way I believe they did the plumbing and wiring with no experience
In reality they might've put up some drywall, maybe some framing. Probably just some minor non complicated stuff and they felt so accomplished they started telling people they built their own house and just ran with it and kept exaggerating
