I built homes.
If it was a small single story house I could possibly believe it.
That house it is a far stretch to believe it.
She might have had friends who were plumbers, framers, masons, and electricians do the majority of the work.

No way you just learn autocad and can throw together plans for that house. It's not just plotting out a floor plan. You need all kinds of other shite on a drawing to get a permit, 2 story needs an engineers stamp.

no it doesn't
the plan just has to meet the local codes divisions specs and all the proper notes are located and then you have to follow the specified inspections

Had a good college buddy who was a builder, his dad and his brothers were also builders. The families wedding present to my buddy was a new home built by the family. They, a family of builders, used a sub to do electrical because "you don't do that shite if you aren't a licensed electrician," In fact, he told me at the time that a licensed electrician is the only person who can hook the main power to a home. Period. I believe there are similar rules around plumbing and sewer too. So no way she didn't use Subs.

I don't disagree with your post as a whole (and no way this family built this home from scratch), but the power company is going to hook the main power to the home. Also the municipality dictates code requirements. It won't be the same everywhere. Not sure if it's still the case, but where I am if you were not in the city, the power company didn't require a permit posted to have power connected.

This is what she did, you can find pics of roofers doing the roofing. She was basically a contractor and helped out/did pieces where she could. She didn't build it from scratch.

Depends where you are for electrical. I will say that to pull an electrical permit it's usually a master electrician that has to pull the permit. Hell, in Washington DC and Maryland I have to have a master electrician pull my low voltage permits.

Makes more sense. My dad and I repaired my house post-flood, and for two men it was a good bit of work (gutting, drywall, flooring, countertops, and a nightmarish amount of painting). We'd never floated sheetrock before, so youtube was an invaluable source for that, plus several other tasks here and there. But as hard as we worked, we were taking a week to do things that an experienced crew of hombres could accomplish in a couple of hours.
Back in the days before internet, my grandfather helped my dad build his first house, and they did about as much themselves as any reasonable person could, resulting in a roughly 1100 square foot wood panel barn-style house. When it came time to add on to it, he absolutely hired that out. So, it's doable, but I couldn't imagine one adult and a few school-age kids rolling up their sleeves and literally building the kind of house in that pic.
