re: If you took power and became King of America what would you do? - ChEgrad
I will return powers not designated by the constitution to the federal government back to the states. Things like marriage and abortion will be decided at the local/state level. I would allow states to determine the amount and type of welfare to be offered to those who need it, but would limit ...

re: Justice Scalia: The death penalty deters crime. Experts: No, it doesn’t - ChEgrad
I think the death penalty, as currently practiced, does not deter criminals. I think for it to work as a deterance it would need to be carried out in public as a spectacle, just like in the old days, and in short order so the crime is still vividly remembered. Done properly these days, the benef...

re: Friend is on a European vaction, had reason to visit a Dr - ChEgrad
When I worked in France the secretary said she had to pay the allergist 85€. I asked why since health care was covered. She said she would have to wait til November for a state paid appointment, but she could see him immediately for cash. It was April. A lady from Texas, but who lived in Sweden...

re: Austin’s Plastic Bag Ban Worse for Environment Than Bags It Outlaws | - ChEgrad
Studies have shown reusable bags are also high in bacteria count and can contribute to illness. They really should be washed regularly, but aren't. That said, I think we are much too clean and don't have enough different kinds of bacteria in our system. Maybe the dirty bags can help build our i...

re: A German grocery store that is cheaper than Wal-Mart is plotting a big expansion - ChEgrad
Wait ´til LIDL gets here.
I've never been in an ALDI, but I've shopped the crap out of LIDL in France. They probably won't be the only store you shop at, but they were cheap and fill a niche. Making you put a euro in the cart and not getting it back unless you put it back prop...

re: Crucial Omission in New York Times Obamacare Story - ChEgrad
You are an idiot. Do states that did not set up an exchange on their own have an exchange on the federal website?
So explain to me why the words "established by the state" are in the law. If it did not matter, then those words could have been omitted completely. The statement cou...
I don't see anyone on the right concerned about pollution in the ocean. I agree with you 100% though that ocean pollution, particularly plastics that don't break down, is too ignored.
I am on the right. I work in the chemical industry. I am concerned about the environment and lov...

re: Federal relief funds for Texas and Okla. - ChEgrad
It would be good if no aid was given. Should be handled privately. The U.S. Constitution does not provide for disaster aid. I'm sure if no federal aid were forthcoming the private sector would step up. Won't happen though. They'll get money. The end of the republic is near....

re: Bernie Sanders plan for free tuition / why is college so expensive? - ChEgrad
Driven up by the availability of cheap and free money. But yeah, our Ivory Towers, for all their preaching, are gorging on tuition. My total bursar's bill went from 36K to almost 45K in a four year span (tuition, room and board, and fees). I'm sure top schools are all north of 60 now. Nothing...

That is a great and thorough answer (copied below for convenient reference). Thank you. rehteah, can you rebut this?
It's supply and demand. As the demand for a service goes up, either supply must increase to meet demand or prices must rise in order to decrease demand to a level that t...
College expenses are ridiculous, and if we had a plan to pay all tuition expenses, the monies spent by colleges could be regulated.
Why is taxation and regulation always the answer? In the old days, a student could pay for college by working in the summer and, maybe, part-time ...
