You could argue 10, but as written without any added assumptions, it's 58.

You really can't though. You could argue that it's 3.6 but there's no way it's 10.

The people saying 10 are thinking that 2(3) counts as parentheses... because they are too ignorant to realize that P means anything INSIDE parentheses.

2(3) is simply multiplication.

Well I agree that 58 is the best answer and 3.6 is the next most logical. 10 is the least logical answer.

One could argue though, that multiplication by juxtaposition allows one to multiply 2(3) and results in 10 as a possible answer. That being said, I think that assumption is somewhat weak and one would have to clearly state that as their reasoning to get a justifiable answer. Otherwise, I just assume they incorrectly used the order of operations.

Overall though, if solved as written, 58 is the superior answer.

The answer as written is 58. If the answer was supposed to be 3.6, there has to be parentheses around the entire right side of the slash, namely the denominator.

No, no you cannot argue that.

Jim was boating on the lake and he drowned.

the 58 people are saying he drowned in the lake.

the 3.6 people are saying he drowned in the bathroom on the boat.

the 10 people are saying he drowned in the bath tub at his house.

If you are reading it as the denominator, you are not using the correct syntax, and as the problem is written, you are WRONG.

I was just saying that, if a person said they got 10, then explained that he/she applied the assumption of "multiplication by juxtaposition" to solve reach the conclusion, that would be more understandable than if he/she got 10 due to a misunderstanding of the order of operations.

geez, it's really freakin simple. It's 58


To get 58 it looks like this 6^2/2(3)+4

To get 3.6 it needs to be written like....(6^2)/(2(3)+4)

To get 10, you gotta be a ruhtard

{[(6^2)/2]*3}+4 = 58

Your original problem doesn't give enough information
