If my drunk arse can get 58, so should everyone else.
It's amazing that as many if this type of thread we have on the OT, people still get the math wrong. Yes it is mildly ambiguous, but the answer to the question in the OP is 58 following proper convention.

Multiplication and division have equal priorities. Whichever one comes first in the equation gets done first.

not another one of these idiotic threads.

The problem isn't the math the problem is the formatting. Everyone is actually seeing three different problems. # 1 : ((6^2)/(2(3)))+4= (36/6)+4= 6+4=10
#2: ((6^2)/2)(3)+4= (36/2)(3)+4= 18(3)+4= 54+4=58
#3: (6^2)/(2(3)+4)= 36/(6+4)= 36/10=3.6
Again English problem not math problem.
#2: ((6^2)/2)(3)+4= (36/2)(3)+4= 18(3)+4= 54+4=58
#3: (6^2)/(2(3)+4)= 36/(6+4)= 36/10=3.6
Again English problem not math problem.

6 squared is 36. Divided by 2 is 18. X3 is 54. +4 is 58. What you got?
It may be time for you to go back to the 7th grade. I'm retarded at math, but even I got this.

This has nothing to do with math. this is a way to tell a calculator what to do if you key in those symbols.
No real person ever uses that system to actually write down an expression that means something.
These things are all stupid.

3.6 imo
ps - you must always do parenthesis first

Are you really though?

The answer is 58. Multiplication is not ahead of division. It simply goes left to right between the two

If those aren't presented, then solving the problem AS WRITTEN, with no additional assumptions, is always correct. If it isn't, then the error is on the presenter. In this case, 58 cannot be argued as incorrect.

The answer is and always be 58 on any and every operating system
Posted on 7/5/15 at 9:39 pm to lsupride87
Answer is still 58 simpletons

Not really. People are just adding parentheses wherever they want. You can't do that.

You set it up wrong. You have to multiply the 2x3 and add 4 before dividing. You can't divide by one part of the bottom
