The dangers of secondhand smoke are total bullshite. Think about it, how many people do you know that have died or gotten cancer because of second hand smoke? I'm willing to bet the entire board hasn't met a single person who died because of secondhand smoke.

And even if it were true, do you think a place with as much room and wind as the fricking beach is going to affect you? Stop being such a pussy.

Great job comparing a behavior that doesn't have any effect whatsoever on anyone else with one that does. And you got upvoted for it. Four other humans think that was a good rebuttal. I hate all of you

Heck no. I enjoy a nice cigar on the beach from time to time. I don't do it when my kids are out there with me, and I make sure to sit on whatever side of my wife that the wind won't blow it all over her. But having some cold beers and a smoke, sitting under an umbrella, and having the wind and waves as background noise is about as perfect of a day at the beach as you can get.

But Cigarettes are still trashy and there shouldn't be butts in the sand.

"Secondhand smoke causes more than 7,300 lung cancer deaths among U.S. nonsmokers each year"

I guess 7300 people a year isn't enough for you.

"Stop smoking, guys. It makes me sad."
Your behavior needs banning. It makes me sick. Proven. Secondhand whining causes me verp-like acid reflux.
And stop speeding!

Unless you are in a smoke filled room routinely, or someone is directly blowing smoke in your face for hours at a time, show me any amount of evidence that secondhand smoke is harmful.

Sure it stinks, but that can be said about many things.

Cars emit a substance harmful to humans if directly inhaled, should we ban cars?

Sitting on a beach, with an ocean breeze 24 hours/day, and some smoke occasionally blowing in your face from 100 feet away is not going to cause lung cancer.

Doubtful that it happens but fines for throwing butts in the sand should be large and heavily enforced.

I agree with this.

Banning? No. Why not just invite the government in to regulate everything we do?

no, it's public. keep it legal. 1st amendment. the right to self inflict cancer.

plus.... when i would get really shitfaced on the beach, it was probably the best cigarette i had ever had while i baked the cancer onto my skin and in my lungs.

eta:
+1 enforcing picking up butts.

They say that, but they've never brought out a person that has this. Easy to say shite when you don't have anything to really back it up. Seriously, bring some of these people forward. You really can't find a life long non-smoking bartender who has gotten cancer from second hand smoke? Can a poster please come forward and say that they know someone who has died from second hand smoke? If it looks like a duck, quacks a duck, then it's a duck.

And here's my link: LINK

Maybe there should be a small smoking section every 100 yards. There could be butt cans in that area. There should be dunes around it to keep the trashy seen from ruining non-trashy people's beach time.

I downvoted this.

I agree with this though.

It really does stink and nobody wants to smell it or want their kids around it. If you have to smoke move to a different area on the beach where other people are not lounging. O

Or, you could move, seeing as you have the problem with it.

I mean seriously, its the beach. The wind will whip smoke away in an instant. The only smell that will linger is that of dead fish.
