Heck, I only have 10-15 students out of 175 that really need this extra credit to graduate and go to college.
Yeah heres a little FYI, if you cant even pass HS without bonus points you have zero business going to college.

Hey douche, can you stop being such a douche, douche?

You and a lot of other people feel that way, but it is not how it is anymore in the education world.
Going to college is shoved down these students throats, regardless if it is even in their best interest or what the student even wants.

8 out of 29 showed up for 1st period

So do you actually teach something that these kids will use one day? Or do you just think your class is that important?

I teach Advanced Math, which is a dual-enrollment course with a local community college.

Nope I don't think so at all. You're just giving an opportunity to them. It's theirs to take. Or not.

And then checked out??

Nope, 4 of the 8 did test corrections, 2 of the 8 took their make up test, 1 worked on another class, and the other made a perfect test score so he just hung out.

My kids go to Catholic school here; their spring "fair" is coming up which involves selling raffle tickets. My senior informed me that all seniors who sell 4 books of tickets will have a "school sanctioned skip day" on Friday (which is set to be a fun/loose day anyway). Even if it wasn't sanctioned, IDK if mine would go or not.
I say yeah for giving the option but not making it mandatory.

Not trying to be overly harsh here, but I think you may have an over-inflated view of how important your class in particular is to their lives.
It's your choice to do the test corrections on senior skip day, knowing full well that the class will be 80% empty. You are choosing this. I think that you are viewing it the opposite way, that the students are choosing to ignore your test corrections.
The truth is, your test corrections never came into play when it came to their making the decision to skip. They are trying to weigh how much overall trouble they will get into versus how much fun they could have at Stacy's pool party.
The only one the test corrections matters to is you. So you can either have the corrections tomorrow, and satisfy yourself... or have them Wednesday, when the students will be there, and it will do the most good for everyone. You will be happy, and so will they.
There's no need to set yourself up as their adversary, when everyone can win, just one day later.

You should give a large test with no makeup on skip day. Senior skip day is stupid.

you can't start new material on a day the class is 80% empty
therefore do test corrections as an award for those who showed up, and start the new stuff on a day when everyone is in attendance
that way you are only wasting one day (senior skip day) and the other days you are teaching
seems fair to me

Poor kid. Perfect test score and preferred to hang out in class instead of skipping. He/She will live in his/her mom's basement for eternity.

Nope. You have to do that. Who cares about senior skip day.

We always had a senior skip day at my HS and of course, when I became a senior, we had a new teacher that tried to schedule a test on that day when she learned about skip day. All the other teachers were cool about it if we let them know in advance.
The principal told the new teacher to stand down when we all complained.
Pretty sure that teacher quit the next year.

Reading responses in this thread is saddening. Comments like, "seniors have already checked out weeks ago, just let them be", "why not give them something they can do at home", etc.
No wonder America sucks now and chalk is the most terrifying thing on a college campus. How bout teaching kids a little bit about responsibility and self discipline?
