I taught high school for 25 years. Every year they talked about it, but never really did it. I just planned my usual stuff we were going to do anyway.

A kid makes a 70 on test 1 and does test corrections to earn half the points back. That's a 85 now.

Same kid makes a 80 on test 2 and does test corrections to earn half the points back. That's a 90 now.

Same kid makes a 75 on test 3 and does test corrections to earn half the points back. That's a 88 now.

Same kid makes another 80 on test 4 and does test corrections to earn half the points back. That's a 90 now.

See how much it can improve their grade?

Is this a real thing? When I was in school everybody talked about it but nobody actually did it.

when i was a senior in high school, which was more than a few years ago, we had senior skip day. the principal, and asst. principal drove out to False River where our class was and photographed of as many of us as they could. When we were identified by the photos, we were suspended from school for a day.

So what would you be skipping on a Saturday?
exactly. the tubing and the party will still be there.

there is no such thing as senior skip day. if you're on the bubble with absences in the spring semester, it can cause you to fail and you won't graduate. there should be another rule that if 35%< of seniors all miss a day and the school doesn't clear it, they all fail.

I teach 175 students. I would say about 10 are in danger of failing my class and are trying to go to college. They need the extra credit bad.

There are other students who want the extra credit just to improve their grade for their GPA.

Do you ever skip leg day bro? Sometimes the allure of those natty gains isn't enticing enough. Sometimes you gotta confuse the body, right babe?

It's tradition in the south.

And everywhere else in the country that I know of.

I don't recall many people in my high school participating though. Everyone already knew where they were going to college. Pretty sure we just watched movies in most of our classes. Sure as hell didn't get extra credit to raise our grades.

I think we had a 140 ish seniors in my class probably close to half skipped class. Most went to gulf shores or Gravine Island. Me and a couple buddies went bass fishing at daylight then took my boat to the island. It was a great day and you didn't want to be one of the losers that didn't skip.

I grew up in New York and don't remember this. Then again I graduated from Msgr. Farrell H.S. in 1969.

The other thing that confuses me in this thread is exam do overs. When I went to school, your test grade was your test grade. A teacher may review it and mark up or down, but the only way of getting extra credit in a class was by doing other work in the class -- like a paper.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that America's educational woes aren't due to a bunch of HS seniors skipping one day at the end of the year.

Asians are kicking our arse because of the size their dicks. People with a little penis are smarter than guys with a big one. I think that is actually backed up by data but what do I know I'm a dumbass.

We had Sr skip day. It was a tradition.

What you're doing as a teacher sets a bad example. You are basically making the tests you gave pointless. Once students figure out they can correct their tests, they'll jerk off all year instead of the one day traditionally set aside to blow off steam.
