I don't really see an issue with offering some kind of incentive to be in class. Domt get me wrong, I'd skip and enjoy the hell out of it as a student, but if there are 3 kids there who are either uneasy about skipping, have really strict parents, or just not into it, it's ok to reward them for showing up. You can easily do this without directly penalizing the others who are taking part in a fun tradition they may remember for a while. Extra credit seems ok as long as it really is extra.

Our senior skip day was on the day of the PSATs fwiw. It wasn't really official or that fun either. It's a test for juniors essentially but everyone took it for practice.

Tradition at my HS alma mater
I heard it started in the 40's--something to do with joining up?
Still going on in the late 60's and early 70's when I was there

I've always wondered why some teachers willingly chose to suck... I was hoping you could enlighten me on this

My school didn't take attendance my senior on skip day. Like they had the senior class president pick a day and that was it. Graduated with 170. Gave us the day off.

What's wrong with you? I have a good friend who taught seniors would find out from some of his football players when senior skip day was and get a sub for that day and go to the golf course.

Send out an email moving the extra credit to another day.

20 years from now those students will not remember the answers to that test, much less what they got right or wrong on it and had to correct.

What they will remeber 20 years from now is the time that they got to spend with their friends in the last 2 weeks of high school. These types of moments are what they will look back and remember

You should've scheduled a huge test and taught all those self entitled little assholes a bit of responsibility.

Hopefully they get a lesson in work ethic, bc in the real world, adults don't get fun days off of work with no consequences...

We had senior skip day the Friday before spring break. It was pretty awesome. But yeah, you're a dick bro.

Last year my daughter's school threatened the kids every day for a week before. They had teachers schedule tests and made projects due that day.

This year they lightened up on them.

What would happen to teachers who took off one of their 180 per year work days? Nothing.

My high school had a school-sanctioned senior skip day.

Some of these schools need to lighten the frick up.

You are what's wrong with education. Your soft arse got a masters on dads money then took a job working 75% of the year. Your overbearing mother would never let you hang out and told you school really mattered.

There you were, so smart because mom said you are, being the obnoxious nerd in school. Correcting others and prissing around like you were a gift to the school. Funny thing, everybody but you and your mom knew you'd be a loser.

Don't be jealous of those kids passing by you. Many will go out and become successful. Others will find peace and happiness. You will still be in your miserable safe space.

You've probably grown bored with the derogatory names the students gave you so you came to the OT for the abuse you crave. You are a sad person with some real issues. Exactly why did you become a teacher?

I am sure the parents of the 10-15 students who need this extra credit, because they need this course to graduate and go to college, would gladly make sure their kid sacrificed "skip day" so he/she could earn back up to half their points by doing test corrections.

It was definitely a tradition when I was in school, great way to make a lifelong memory. I doubt they'll remember doing bonus points in class. Administration didn't care as the senior class did it every year. Your students secretly hate you btw.

You have yet to say why you won't just do it the next day. Other than try to "show them how it is in the real world," or something to that effect. High school isn't the real world.

It is just meant to be a little bonus for those students who willingly sacrifice skip day, have strict parents, have to many absences already, or just flat out don't enjoy whatever is planned for skip day.

It will in no way negatively effect the grade of the students who participate in skip day.

Heck, I only have 10-15 students out of 175 that really need this extra credit to graduate and go to college.
