1. New York
2. Las Vegas* I will put an asterisk here because Vegas isn't necessarily a great city; it's a playground for adults and a great place to visit if you enjoy the sins which Vegas provides. There is no better place an earth to spend a few days of debauchery with your buddies.
3. Chicago
4. New Orleans
5. Seattle
6. Washington DC
7. Boston
8 & 9 tie- Austin & San Diego
10. San Francisco
11. Miami
12. Philadelphia

FWIW- I live in Los Angeles and feel that it's a great place to live as it offers a little of everything. I have no clue why anyone would want to vacation here though.

I assume this is ranking the cities as a visitor, not as a resident.

1a)NYC
1b)New Orleans
3)Boston
4)DC
5)Denver
...

If this was in terms of living there, NYC would not be first, solely because it has a negative net value on your income and lifetime earning potential. Also Philly and Baltimore are out solely because you get the crime of New Orleans without the culture or music.

5 Denver

Although I've been to like 44 states, we always stayed away from the major cities, so I've yet to go to NYC, the major Cali cities, etc

I'm leaving out NOLA... can't be unbiased. I've been all over, but not often enough or recently enough to really compare all of them. Haven't been to San Francisco since I was 20... would be totally different now. Boston will be next up for me.

9. D.C.
10. Tampa/St. Pete

Not including Chicago, where I live now, and would put into the top two. Amazing city with world class cuisine, world class museums, mediocre (Bears) to awesome (Hawks) professional sports squads, a great dive bar and drinking scene, concerts and shows galore, freakin' beaches during the summer. Only downside is the lake effect winters. But summer here is freakin
