Not including Chicago, where I live now, and would put into the top two. Amazing city with world class cuisine, world class museums, mediocre (Bears) to awesome (Hawks) professional sports squads, a great dive bar and drinking scene, concerts and shows galore, freakin' beaches during the summer. Only downside is the lake effect winters. But summer here is freakin
I can't get over how awesome summer is here. This is my second summer here and first that I've really been able to enjoy (had surgery and a serious girlfriend last summer).
I am going broke because I'm partying like a rock star and having the time of my life. Between the roof top bars, the beaches, games at Wrigley (and the Cubs are actually good), bar-hopping patio bars on Saturdays, the festivals, the concerts, and on and on...it's doing a number on my bank account, but I never thought I'd be having the best summer of my life at 28.

Seattle
Vancouver (Included because it's North America)
Calgary (Ditto)
Portland
NOLA
Denver
I've been to to others, but those are the only ones that have made a positive impression. I try to avoid cities.

This thread is about ranking cities you've visited, not all the cities you had a connecting flight in.

To visit:
1) SF
2) Chicago
3) DC
4) Seattle
5) New Orleans
I haven't done enough of the real NYC or Denver stuff to rank them.
To live in:
1) Dallas
2) DC
3) Seattle
4) Chicago
5) Houston/Atlanta
Notes:
Didn't include places like Portland, Charleston, Nashville, etc. or smaller in my considerations because I'm not sure of the size we're talking about.
I considered the following, but they didn't make any list of mine: LV, Miami, Boston, LA, Philly, STL, Austin, San Diego
1) SF
2) Chicago
3) DC
4) Seattle
5) New Orleans

Los Angeles is an acquired taste. Not my scene. I enjoy cities around LA though (Malibu, Long Beach, the beach towns just north of Camp Pendleton).

LA has everything SF and SD have and then lots more. It's the greatest city in the country.
I live in LA so I'm biased, but if someone visits LA and says they didn't have a good time, i don't have much problem with it. However, anyone that says Los Angeles is not a good place to live is fricking nuts.... it has so much variety and so many different things to do. It's not quite as bustling as new york, but we have great outdoor life in beaches and mountains that NYC doesn't have.

NYC has three beaches and mountains less than an hour away, but I get your point. Though your water is so cold.

Yeah, add HB and that's how I am. LA proper though, I don't get the appeal.

That's an absolute load of bullshite if I've ever heard it. No way is LA a better city than NYC.
