There is a ton of misinformation or outright lies this woman has given the OP. She has had ample time to get her affairs in order and unless her employer truly lied to her about the qualifying event, then she's up shite creek.
The silver lining might be that if it is a healthy pregnancy, and she isn't due until 2017, perhaps she can go to one appointment out of pocket and then defer everything else to 2017 when she's on her own insurance. Don't mistake that for medical advice, but in my experience the check ups during the pregnancy are largely useless in most cases, but obviously they're looking out for other risks.

Girl that works for us has a similar income and pops 'em out like a tennis ball cannon. Never known of her having to pay a dime for health care. Not sure how she gets by without paying but she visits the DHS office about every month for paperwork of some sort.

OP, stay away. Set her up with some advice and contacts and let that be the end of it. She's going to try and drag you into her disarray, misery, and dysfunction. Hang around long enough, she'll be moving in your house, you'll be footing for the kid, etc.

Insurance isn't about "I haven't been to the doctor in eight years"....its for when (God forbid) you get into a car wreck, have medical issues or just require a daily medicine and items like one surgery is $150k or a prescription is $3k a month. This type of thinking is why our tax dollars are paying for so much medical care. Be an adult and at least get major medical insurance.

OP you need to stay away. She has had plenty of opportunities to do this properly and has been lazy every time. After you have your first kid you can get one of those mechanical birth controls that are basically a guarantee to not get pregnant. 2ndly she's not freaking Single and that screws her up but is her own doing. Lastly, basic high deductible healthcare can be had on the open market for less than $100/ month to anyone under 30 at anytime that wants it. She failed to do this, it's all on her.

This. I get you care and that's a great quality. The thing is, it isn't hard to not get pregnant. It really isn't. She made the bed, she needs to lie in it. Unfortunately, that usually translates into the kid not having a chance in life.
