OP, that is very nice of you to try to help...but like other posters have said....there are many resources this woman could take advantage of. Whatever she is doing, I really hope she is at least seeking prenatal care, even if she doesn't have insurance coverage for it. Baby's health should be her top priority now. She can sort out the medical bills later.

just use some of the U-Pull-It money to get her down to BR, where they have a clinic. Fewer judgmental Baptists down there.

It's illegal to not have insurance per Obama...jail her and she can have the baby in prison.

Ok so a girl I know is pregnant without any insurance. Ouachjta Parish and she makes a bit over $27k. She already has a child and can't get insurance through her work until open enrollment. She claims she applied for Medicaid but was denied due to her income.

Does anyone know any pregnancy counsellors in Monroe? Or have any suggestions? The whole situation is a mess but I'm trying to help her out, she's scared and doesn't know what to do.

Surely there are some coounsellors that can guide her through this.

I do t have pics, sorry OT. But seriously any help is much appreciated.

Edit: correction, income in $31,800

Write Donald Trump a letter. He can use this as part of his campaign and maybe fund her birth.

How long has she been in the job? Was she in another job recently and was covered there? If so, Cobra. Yes very expensive, but will cost less than what having the baby will cost. Her salary is definitely a disqualifier for Medicaid.

In my opinion she has three options.

1. For prenatal care, take her husbands, or hers, old insurance card to doctor/hospital/whatever. Pay co pay, rack up medical bills, have baby, transfer all assets out of her name, and file for bankruptcy after the child is about 6 months old. Not a popular opinion, I know, but that babies health is of the utmost importance.

2. Only seek medical help at a hospital ER, they wont refuse service without insurance, but they will bill at full price. Do this for the entirety of her pregnancy, and care after birth. File bankruptcy to discharge medical bills.

3. Have an abortion

Truthfully, this girl is skrewed in every sense of the word. She got fricked, now shes really about to get fricked. No offense to her, but she needs to get her shite together. Take on a second job, lower expenses, whatever she has to do. Freaking get medicare. If she doesnt have it with that income and dependents she is either doing something wrong or lying. Although the government makes you jump through loads of hoops, they take care of pregnant women. There are options available for her, but she has to do the work to find them. This seems to be a woman that puts the majority or her responsibilities off on her significant other, so if you are just a helpful friend, great, but if you are in a relationship, do yourself a favor and run.

She should talk to someone other than her employer regarding what is a qualifying event. I think her employer might be wrong.

As far as I know, with the way preexisting conditions work now, she could just change employers and get coverage. Obviously that is inconvenient as hell, but it would still do the trick.

Not that I know of.

They're all still alive

I haven't been sick since I was in high school like eight years ago. I'm not on any meds or anything either.

But, but, but... you could get sick and what will you do then? Plus we are getting screwed so you have to join in with the rest of us suckers.

I haven't been real sick since high school either and that was many many moons ago. Maybe when I get old I may need to go, but why be forced to pay for it when I would NEVER use it. I've had insurance and never used it before, so why waste thousands of dollars a year so they can profit off me?

Yeah there have been two different situations brought up in this thread. Her being dropped from her sorta ex-husband's plan was a qualifying event. Her finding out she is expecting a child is not a qualifying event.

Being dropped from a plan is a qualifying event, but so too is getting divorced. Often times they go hand in hand, but in this case, finalizing the divorce might get her another special enrollment period. She needs to get more information from a competent HR employee.

ETA: Considering this requires her to actually do something of note AND she has to find a competent HR employee, she is probably fricked.

Believe what you want, but legally manipulating the system since the pre-existing condition exclusion was dropped doesn't exclude you from being a dumbass. You should be self-insuring at a minimum.

If you cannot imagine a scenario where a previously healthy person would need major medical coverage, you deserve whatever crushing bills you get.

I think you actually have to have it though.

I.e. No coverage for prenatal care and delivery

Given the picture of the overall responsibility level given, I would say she started contractions near the start of thread, hence the urgency

Tell her to change her name to Maria Gonzalez, don't speak, and don't bring any paperwork to the hospital. Free ride.
