That's a serval. Savannah cats are a hybrid between a serval and a domestic cat.

Horses are the best pets. Though my racehorse is more of a cuddle bug than my pet horse

Aspy!!

Yeah I hate to admit it, but I treat our horses like big dogs. all but a couple of the mares act like dogs too. I swear my palomino understands what I say like my dogs do. If a canine or equine ends up here, they've hit life's lottery.

I bought a border collie/catahoula mix from a good ole boy's farm for a $100 (paid for the shots/food). Best dog ever. I will never understand why people spend a ton of money on a dog

Yes and no...

I'll just speak in my parents case as I haven't been away long enough or responsible enough to own my own dog.

When I was in middle school, we got 2 dogs from the shelter. Absolutely fantastic dogs and we were heartbroken when they passed. The second one passed last year. My mom wanted a non-shedding dog as cleaning up the past 15 years were a hassle and paid like 2 grand for one of those poodle mixes that are so trendy now. Personally I'm not a huge fan but it doesn't shed, is smart, and she sends me pictures of it almost daily. With all the stupid reasons you can spend 2 grand...a dog that is perfect for you for 10 years really isn't a bad investment at all.

Yeah my nutjob golden retriever rescue was free.

But I'd gladly pay a few grand if it meant he spent another decade with us. Hell I'd thank whoever I wrote the check to for the opportunity.

My last dog was a female french bulldog and I will never get anything other than a frenchie. The entertainment/comedic value alone is worth the $2,000 they cost. My frenchie had the biggest personality. Loved everyone she met and was definitely an attention getter. My next french bulldog, however, will be a blue. They are some of the most beautiful dogs I have ever seen, but you pay for it.

Anyone in here paying outrageous prices for dogs are absolutely fricking retarded. Go to a shelter, save a dog's life, and make a new best friend. Give me the sob stories about how you need the perfect breed dog to go retrieve your dead birds, and I'll tell you to hire a Mexican for $50 to do the job for you.

If you buy dogs that cost that much, you should breed then.

Either
A) You don't know shite about GOOD dogs
B) You've never been around a GREAT retriever.
or
C) You've never owned an actual great hunting dog

Lots of folks THINK they've seen good dogs , but very few actually have. I'll give ya a hint. You're not gonna pick him up fro $250 at Jojo's Petshop down the road. By a proven pedigree and you're money ahead in the game. Now for nonhunting or nonworking dogs, you'd be an idiot to pay those prices. In that scenario go to the pound
ETA: the cost in a retriever isn't in the purchase of the pup , but in the training

im not reading this whole thread but on the first page I said when you paid that type of money your dogs shouldn't have died so young. Were they AKC dogs? If not go to the american kennel club website and find a breeder near you of AKC dogs of whatever breed you want, hopefully you're near a major city and one exists. We had to drive 300 miles from houston to get our dogs but they came from a breeder with all kinds of documented info on the dogs family history, etc. It sounds silly but before that we went to some lady off the internet and we got a great pup who died at 6 months old from god knows what and it was sad. The vet was on the one who told us about getting AKC dogs that are a little pricier but come with better info on the dogs genetic background. Our breeder told us that dogs with problems either socially or genetically were taken out of the breeding pool over the years. Our dogs knock on wood are still young 2,3,and 4 but they've been healthy to this point thank god.
